enydo - Trapped Within [progressive, trance]

I've had my Technics for a while now and have yet to record a set for posting purposes. This is just an on the fly set, no planning or prep went into it, just a little over an hour of playing around. All vinyl minus two tracks. It's pretty similar to the stuff I've posted previously, but I don't have much variety in my vinyl collection yet. Comments encouraged and appreciated.

Tracklist:

Sasha - Animal Qat (Deconstruction) - 1994
Science Dept. - Breathe [Danny Howell's Drifting Dub] (Renaissance) - 2001
Patrick Turner & Jay Tripwire - Common Loon (Movim Recordings) - 2003
Future Breeze - Mind In Motion [Van Bellen Late Night Mix] (Alphabet City) - 2001
Avatar - Drift Away [Van Bellen Remix] (Sog Records) - 2002
Breeder - Clayface [Club Caribou Mix] (Rhythm Syndicate) - 1998
Lemon8 - Pressure (Basic Energy) - 2001
New Order - Crystal [Bedrock Remix] (London Records) - 2001
Bullit - Ricochet [Christian West Mix] (Arcade America) - 2000
Bedrock - Voices (Bedrock Records) - 2000
GHOS - Can You See The Lights? (Yoshitoshi Recordings) - 2002
GHOS - Future Music (Yoshitoshi Recordings) - 2002
Moby - Porcelain [Force Mass Motion Mix] (Mute Records Ltd.) - 2000

Ah is SoundCloud down? The embed doesn't show up for me, says the track is unavailable. Uploading to an alternative, I'll post the link in a sec.

Megaupload link posted. Some wobbly transitions in here, but no full-on trainwrecks I don't think. At least none that last for more than 5 seconds or so.

I'll probably give this a listen, although I'm getting pretty bored of hearing the same few early-00s prog producers being reassembled over and over.

My real question is where you want to take this whole DJing lark. You seem to have assembled a lot of equipment, you play a lot of on-the-fly stuff and you're shelling out for vinyl, all of which suggests a reasonably serious interest. But at the same time you're buying records which aren't really going to get you gigs anywhere, except playing for friends. I tend to assume you're playing obvious, old tracks as practise at the live DJing skills: mixing and programming without pre-planning, but what's the game plan?

emmm, to be honest I really haven't given it much thought. I have a lot of other stuff on cd that I play around with that isn't this same old tired crap, but as I said, I wanted to do a vinyl mix. I dunno, I just enjoy playing? If you're tired of it you really don't have to check it out, I wont be hurt or anything.

I guess playing out somewhere is the future goal with DJing isn't it. I'm also well aware these types of sets wont land me any gigs or anything, but until I finish up with school I can't really dedicate myself fully to mixing so it's kind of "bedroom amateur shit" until then. As I said, my vinyl is pretty limited due to what the record shop around here actually has. They're really really weak in the techno and house department, but they had a pretty large selection of the older obvious prog stuff, which me and Adam snatched up for pretty cheap. I didn't really shell out much money at all for a lot of the vinyl I've got, maybe 300 bucks tops over the course of a year.

No, I'll give it a listen. You were one of the first people who started tuning in to everything I posted here and it gave me a lot of confidence when I knew people would listen to something if I posted it. So in that sense I owe you, and generally we like the same music so it's never a write-off listening to your sets.

I ask for a couple of reasons. Firstly, you often seem unhappy with what you share, so I wonder why you don't do more planning and more takes so you can deliver something you're happy with. Although most of my mixes have flaws, I know I have infinite time to get them right so I'm sharing something good when I post. It's better practise to play as you do, but I wondered what you were practising at.

Secondly, if you are just playing around to get better at the skills of live DJing, is there something more adventurous to come?
