Starting a new vinyl collection

Hello all,

I've been mixing trance mp3s for a few months now...learned basic beat matching/phrasing, and have recorded a few of my mixes. This past weekend, I took the plunge and bought a set of turntables...very excited!

I wanted to buy a few vinyls to start my collection. I wanted to buy tracks that I'm familiar with...tracks that I've heard in other DJ sets (Marco V, DJ Astrid, PVD). However, most of these tracks are a few months old...maybe even a year old, and are difficult to locate even on the online record stores that I've seen mentioned on tranceaddict.

I guess what I want to know is...should I be hanging out in local record stores, listening to the very newest releases, and picking out what I like? I thought I could find any vinyl that I wanted online, but I've been proven wrong. What do you guys think?

a few of the singles that I wanted:
Velvet Girl - Velvet
Chac - 7 Years
Frank Brook - Daywalker
Solis - Dolphins

I advise you go down to your local record store and pick out some new releases..

Worry about finding old tracks that you really want later on..

Smile Thanks!

Hey Trancers,

Thanks for your help, I really appreciate it!

I've searched through the forums on tranceaddict, looking for online vinyl shops. I looked at:

dancerecords.com
groovetech.com (thanks for recommending MekTek!)
satelliterecords.com
planetxusa.com
chemical-records.com

I didn't find most of the tracks that I was searching for (always out of stock). I was looking for tracks that the big boys lay down in their sets...then I got to thinking...I need to develop my own style, be somewhat innovative, find my own records.

So, I took DJ Chrono's advice, and started looking at some new tracks. Work is slow today, so I was able to spend about 4 1/2 hours listening to new releases on the aforementioned sites. I ended up ordering about 12 new vinyls from satelliterecords (have a great sale and free shipping for orders over $70).

If I see some of the older tracks that I want somewhere down the road, I'll pick them up. Thanks to all that replied, I appreciate the input...and I bookmarked GEMM (thanks DJ Konami...they have everything!) Wish some of the vendors were in the U.S. though

check out www.lightningrecords.be
you can probably get it from their shop

the best online shop I found is www.only-djs.com it's in Netherlands so they get all the latest stuff

the easiest way to see what the top tunes that are spun by the big DJ's is to type in Dj's name in the search box it will give you all the neweset releases and dates when the vinyl has been released, and full lenght samples for most of the stuff. have not had any problems with them yet!

another suggestion go to the record shops and just talk to the sales person get to know them the more often you show up there the better they know what kind of stuff you like and you will have less problems finding new stuff that you like!

First of all, yes, hanging out at a record store and hearing the newest stuff is good cause that way you will find stuff that is not that known and have your own choons.

2nd, if you ask the reocrd store for vinyls, including lables and preferably lable codes, he could probably order them for you.

Hey, and congrats for the new Tables!

Yeah, the record shop is probably your best bet to hear the newest tunes and pick the ones that you like...digging through the stock crates isn't bad either...you'll be suprised what kinda shit you can dig up(I found a few out of prints and classics just sitting there!)
As for requests, the record shop owner and ebay are your best bets. Ebay can get you alot of the older, hard to find stuff.

Just did that, I sat down and listened to a bunch of producers/lables I've never heard of...I found ALOT of stuff that I like...ended up getting 12 vinyls.

I'll keep that in mind, but now that I took your first piece of advice, I'm out to find undiscovered music!

Thanks! I know they aren't Tech 12's, but I love spinning, and I love my tables!

Are you in Israel? Hope all is well over there, take care of yourself, be careful.

Keep spinning!
