Dunno The best value starter set?

I always wanted to DJ as a hobby and i finally went to a friends house to get introduced to all the basics.

Currently i am playing around with virtual dj and love every moment i spend on it. I can't focus on work just because i keep thinking of better ways to create a better mix. The best part about Djing is that no mix is perfect, it can always be improved upon.

Anyways enough with my rant. Yesterday i was talking to my friend who uses mainly the Serato software. However he reccomends me to get the Numark Mixdeck if i just want to DJ as a hobby.

Mostly i would just like to play from the computer. Really all i learned so far is when to drop the next track and control the pitch of the music. I think in the beginning all i am going to be using are the cross fader, the equalizer, the pitch control, and the volume. IS there really a big difference between Traktor and Serato?

I would like opinions on it if possible.

Thanks =]

I would stay away from any iPod related gear, personally.

I'd go with something like this. http://www.amazon.com/M-Audio-Torq-...81384323&sr=8-1

I use the full version with external decks and a mixer, but for 100 bucks, this will give you everything you need to mix your mp3s, plus you get a little mini midi mixer (called the X-Session Pro) to mix with. With this, you're not required to attach an iPod like the one you posted. All you need is a usb connection to your laptop and you have access to all your iTunes playlists and libraries.

Plus for 100 bucks, you cant go wrong even if for some reason you dont like it.

I've learned alot using this machine and its IMO the best beginner setup out there.

Get the VCI 100 instead. Tried and tested, it's a tank and worth the extra penny if that's the kind of controller you want to go for

Vestax VCI-100 is way better than most of the MIDI controllers. Other MIDI controllers would feel like Plastic toys and yes you can use VCI-100 in a professional setup as well. It lets you do nice scratches as well with adjustable platter friction.

If VCI-300 is in your budget then go for it, its better than VCI-100 (in terms of MIDI resolution) and comes with Serato Itch. The Mixer has soundcard built in unlike VCI-100 where a good external sound card would be required.
