Evil1 OPERA nightclub really sucks

Last night at Opera was just one of many examples were the management at this club clearly shows that they don't care about music and have zero respect for the artists and djs that play in the club. Marco V was supposed to play in the Venetian room last night after Opera had booked a hip hop artist to play in the main room. I was a little upset about this but no big deal. But the unthinkable happened. As George Lukin ( opening dj for Marco V) was in the middle of his set in the Venetian room, the management stopped his music, started playing hip hop and kicked him out to the terrace with his mixer and cdjs. No explanation was given to him . He looked very confused and upset. The crowd at the Venetian room were also confused. Their fun night seemed to have ended and no explanation was given by anyone. All we knew was that the room had been invaded with hip hop music. The cause for all this seemed to have been that the club was over capacity, and they were afraid that it will be close down. In an attempt to keep the door open and make more money, Opera opted to kick out the electronic music event in the Venetian room to get more space for their main room event. That's a big disrespect for George Lukin and the crowd that was promised a fun night in the Venetian room. But this doesn't stop there. Outside in the terrace the hip hop music went on for a while competing with Lukin's set. Of course he had to set everything again since the area was not ready for an event. His crowd was fragmented around the hundreds of people that were still trying to get into the hip hop event. And still to that time no explanation of the situation. Lukin went on with his set but we continue to struggle with the hip hop music that was playing at the same time in the terrace. This went on for a while. And then Marco V showed up. He looked confused and angry. I was told that to get him into the club he had to go all around the club through the VIP section. Lukin explained the situation to him basically telling him that the club was overcrowded and that the management had kicked them out of the Venetian room. He was upset. Initially he was not given an explanation by anyone else. There were no representatives from the club, not even a drink was offered for a while. He said that the sound outside was awful, you could not even hear the music well. He was frustrated. After some discussion with people I don't know, Marco V agreed to play a short set. It was great!!...while it lasted. 30 minutes or so into his set he was told by Opera security that they had to lower the volume or they could get in trouble. That was the end. Lukin played for a little more but Opera also shut him down around 210am. This was shameful. Marco V might never come back to Atlanta again, at least not to Opera. This is an insult to Lukin, Marco V, and the fans of electronic music that came to see them last night. Opera has zero interest in offering a diverse , fun environment. It's more of a money making machine. And it's not an isolated incident. About a month ago I went to see Mike Czech Sat night in the Venetian room and the Opera management had the room closed until 130am because they were waiting for the main room to be at capacity. It's two different events I kept insisting. People were just frustrated outside the Venetian room waiting for it to open. And it finally did but by then frustration and impatience had taken over our fun night out. I would really ask Liquified to consider other venues. I think they do a good job at bringing great talent, it's just the wrong venue. Opera is bad for the electronic music community. They don't give a s*$t about music. And we can end up been hurt by having djs refusing to come back because of situations like this. That's all I have to say. Still pissed at the whole thing.

What a mess, but I can't say this is the first time I have heard complaints about the venue tho. They need to get their act together.

Me too. I look forward to seeing how Liquified pussy foots around this one. Sounds terrible. Opera is the worst and I for one will not support Liquified until they start listening to us and take the music elsewhere.

Now you guys see why I've snapped and have stopped trying to defend Liquified. These last few disasters are really inexcusable. I'm glad I snapped before this, because had I not, I probably would've shown up to this and really freaked out.

Really wanted to see Marco V....really glad I didn't though---I would have been pretty upset considering I would have traveled 4 hrs to see him. Feel really bad for him---what an experience.

What a fantastic club. Who would ever stop attending events at a place so superbly run as Opera?

Great Staff

Great Planning

Great sound in all areas

If you want to get beat, not see the DJ you came to see in the room you were told you were seeing him in, this is the place for you. It is a surprise every time. Go adventure!

As I said in a previous thread, Liquified doesn't show up to address serious issues. I understand he's here to make money, but 99% of the people on this forum hate the venue he's having events at. Shouldn't that say something? I think the whole situation with the guy getting beat up was bad, but this really concerns me. If they are allowed to actually ruin the show people paid to enjoy, then what else will they do?

Opera has shut down events with other electronic DJs and promoters midway through before. This isn't the first time.
