Re: House > Trance
i do agree that a lot of trance dj's are mixing house-ish songs in their sets, ie markus schulz, sander van doorn, armin van buuren, ferry corsten.
but then again, markus, sander, and ferry aren't exactly 100% trance dj's either.
i can listen to a set with 100% trance, i can't listen to a set with 100% house, but i enjoy sets w both house & trance.

House music tends to be more popular for dancing, trance tends to be better for listening.
That's why when you see a "trance" DJ in a club, the set usually has more of a house vibe than their mix albums.
I can't say house is better than trance, though. It's not. It's "dumber", for lack of a better term. It's good for dancing, but it doesn't inspire. The only stuff I really like that could maybe be described as house is progressive, and some tech house.
I'm not saying I hate house, I don't. It's just too simple for me to enjoy listening to it for more than an hour or so at a time, and I prefer it when mixed with progressive and trance. It's great as background music at clubs, but not as great to "actively" listen to.
And for the record, trance DJs use house songs as bridges between more emotional songs. They use it to get the crowd moving before taking them to the next level. Once again, this shows that house is good for getting you moving, but it doesn't inspire.
So yes, house is great at being Electronic DANCE Music, but trance is much more than just dance music.
EDIT: And house couldn't have existed without disco... and disco wouldn't have existed without funk... we could do this forever. :P

I don't think there are any pure trance DJs left, and more people do like house than trance.
But as it was said above, I'd kill myself if I had to listen to 3+ hours of house. And I'd be disappointed if I didn't get to listen to 3+ hours of "trance".

Depends, usually house...maybe a little prog trance depending on who the headliner is and who the opener is.
