One of the most amazing things I've seen was one of the engineers at the studio dropping the Waves GTR disortion pedal on the Long strings in a cue and it sounded incredible.
Def worth checking if your looking for something simple and outside of the box.

it is pretty cool how he treats a traditional orchestra with effects you wouldn't ever think of.

Totally. It's crazy to see a combination of great traditional methods and engineering, with some really unusual fx that normally would get someone fired for even considering. I've seen some crazy techniques there and the envelope really does get pushed.

Quadrafuzz is superb, but Cubase only sadly.
Ohmforce is also very good if you can get your head round it, which shouldn't be a problem.
I've also had great results from Guitar Rog, but it's a bit of a resource hog.
...and with the "Punish" feature engaged, it will get pretty nasty (in a good way).
I will have to second this. It's quite amazing the Decapitator. Goes from subtle to brutal, and the mix dial makes parallel processing hassle free and just helps make the plugin very versatile.
