I read that they used Juno 6 / 60 / 106 in that period (I used Juno 6 to make the clip). Some of their pads sound like saw and square mix. The Junos let you control the pulse width of the square osc, so you can adjust it until it sounds just right against the saw, and they have a nice chorus effect. The clip is saw + square + subosc, some noise, chorus, medium resonance. The last bit is just me fooling around trying to get the big synth noise from "Cups" (in the track it sounds like they are switching up the pulse width between synth bursts).
There is also another pad they use more on Beaucoup Fish that sounds like a synth string with a high pass filter and phaser. Not sure which sound you mean. |
Nice sound, and thanks for the effort you put in. Its close to what I mean. The best example of the pad I'm on about is on 'Bansyle/Sappy's Curry' at about 5:55 and it continues for the duration of the track. It is so warm and full. Love it. As I said I've got close to this but not as close as I like, which leads me to think it's something specific to the oscillators / filters / fx on the synth used.
And
@Tehlord. I agree, some of the Underworld pads definately sound sampled, you can sometimes hear the loop points. But I reckon it is the same synth they sampled. Probably made the sound on their synth then sampled it to phatten it up / layer it or add some fx via the sampler.
