how do i get my mind off of production?

hmm this might seem strange, but pretty much every single day for the last year now, i always find myself either inside of my daw for a few hours day, reading up on something production related, or thinking about making a track when i am outside with friends, and i think its driving me insane.

I also do this every day.
I guess that's why I come hear, to try to learn some thing new.

+1.

Also, get outside and do some sort of recreation that pre-occupies your mind, requires some sort of focus/concentration to take your mind off music for a while. For those times when getting outside or chasing girls around isn't an option, try to find another creative outlet/hobby, such as painting, photography, graphic design, or whatever to keep the creative juices flowing and possibly even complement music-making.

I have a girlfriend who makes me want to do nothing but stay away from her and make music.

I am constantly tapping, making beats with my mouth, tapping my feet or finding ways to make music with various things I have within my reach. My girlfriend hates it and I have only recently really really started to focus on music production and all this energy is getting put to good use.

My advice to you? Make more music Music is the universal language that everyone in the world can understand and that's badass. One day you will be old and deaf. What will you do then? Daydream about when you used to make music?

Sorry Kevin, but I completely disagree. Musicians need to spend a lot more time experiencing life and (especially for EDM producers) less time staring at a computer and clicking a mouse; otherwise, where is the inspiration for music going to come from?

True true. I get most inspired when listening to music but that's just me.

I started experiencing life and now I barely do any music at all. How does that work then?

Lets agree to disagree. Preach on Kev! Screw the bitches, they're not worth it. Why spend thousands of dollars taking a vacation when you can take the same tour on YouTube in the comfort of your dimly lit 8'x10' studio.
