Here's something that I never understood: Why do some people look down on people who use nothing but CDs for their DJ activities? Shouldn't it be the DJ's choice? After all, doesn't he/she have a right of what tool to use? Of so, why do people look at it like it's "worser" than vinyl mixing (or vice-versa)? I understand that some people PREFER mixing with vinyl over CDs because of preferential reasons but, at the same time, some put the non-vinyl users down.

The way I look at it, it's simply arrogance.
Who cares where the music comes from?
It's not the technicalities that make a person a great DJ -- like whether you use vinyl or CD's. It's how you feel the music and the crowd, and how you're able to create an atmosphere.

I think that even someone who mixes MP3's but has had a public performance in a club, is to be respected *much* more, than a bedroom vinyl DJ who disses CD's and MP3's and says "only vinyl DJ's are true DJ's" and yet hasn't had any public performances.

You are 100% right. You don't get famous by WHAT you use. You get famous by using WHATEVER it is that you use to make the audience happy and pleased to see/hear you perform. Music production works both ways too. It's NOT the tools that you use but, it depends on if you magood music or not. If people like it, congratulations. That's all that counts.

It's only a tool.. Doesn't really matter to me where the sound comes from.. As long as it's good..

For myself.. I've been planning to purchase a DJ set of my own for quite some time now.. prolly it's gonna be a CDJ set, just because of the quid it'll save me... I'll maybe buy TT's later on..

I agree on the fact it does look a bit 'cooler' when a DJ spins real vinyl.. But even if he doesn't.. if it sounds good, I won't complain

My take on... (various mixes planned, updated when I can be arsed)

i would never play an mp3.. they sound llike shit when played loud, reguardless of the bitrate..

and teh reason why vinyl is more popular is because of sound quality.. the new pioneer cdj-1000 err whatever allegedy can reproduce teh warm sound of vinyl, but why pay that much for a stinking cd player??

i always thought that vinly quality was better than cd quality no matter what effects that get added to the cd sound,so surley vinyl is the better of the 2

those CDRS armin has wouldn't be mp3s.. teh producers would export thier tunes to wav.. not compress them to mp3

I dont really care what there using as long as there doing it well. Some people always say shit like "whouldnt you get pissed if you saw so and so do his whole set on cd?" or say it takes less skill. But all that matters is the music

Paul van Dyk last night was spinning a number of tunes of off CD-R and there was no noticable sound difference. I think that however you can own the crowd, own them. It's not with what, but how.

i dont DJ at all, but i would disrespect a DJ with an MP3 CD with stuff off the internet...i mean he/.she can just DL a track while others actually pay, support the artist and actualyl havta look for the track

but i generally agree with everyone here...if it makes the crowd happy, then its cool unless its AM radio of course
