To be honest no. There are a couple of reasons 1. is that hard trance
& NRG have pretty much a strangle hold in melbourne.
I think melbourne likes it hard & bangin. also tech is so good in melbs

i really dont think trance is at it's best atm with all the crap coming out. Even if we did i doubt i would go. Not many play and only a few who do do it good. Steve Strangis & Dave Begic are 2 who do it great. If any of u saw their Vs set at TransAtlantic u would agree.

i doubt melbourne will ever have a all uplifting trance club/night and we will just have to wait once a year to get the big int's

just my opinion

its good to see people appreciated their set at transatlantic...

i remember the days when dave and i used to listen to commercial music and cheesy house music

i remember the first time dave come with us to the docks..it only took him 15 minutes to realise trance is THE music

we'll c what happens..if the night in sydney can work..then a night in melbourne can work

Well the night in Sydney definitely works

I was a little worried that the turnout might be low, but the Dendy was absolutely packed! Pretty sweet that a party can out-grow it's vene on the first ever night

hey Tsunami One i tend to agree with you on some of the points you brought up about melbourne not being ready for an uplifting trance club with the scene here leaning more towards the harder and housier type of nights but i think we need to take a more optimistic look on the issue.

I reckon that with all the endless clogging of hard nrg and house music melbourne clubbers are forced to listen to everytime they go out that they (or should i say we) would welcome a uplifting trance club with open arms. Not only would it be a nice change, but clubbers would experiance what they experianced at Two Tribes 2002 (if they went) which ofcoarse was HIGHLY succesful.

Also (by the way im not having a go at yah ) but how can you say that trance is not at its best at the moment. That is a very geralised comment your making especially if your only listening to tracks that nova play like "Ian Van Dahl - Will I" and "Sophie Eliis Bextor - murder on the dance". thier are SO many great tracks at the moment! just to name a few:

Solid Sessions - Janeiro
Solar Stone - Solar Coaster
Viframa - Cristalle
etc...

The only REAL problem that is holding this back is that someone needs to get the balls and actually take a risk. Their is such a large market for it and im highly certain that it would be successful if the idea was implemented. But ofcoarse who is that person gonna be?

Yes, a melbourne version of sydney's altitude would be great here and yes i feel it would work. By the way congrats to all you sydney altitude people, by the sounds of things it sounded like a highly successful night.

cyz

stipsy the Steve Strangis vs Dave Begic set @ TransAtlantic reminded me why i love trance so much and why i go to parties. For the love of the music.

discitelli i agree there are some great tracks being released but only a few have really caught my eye . I guess im a very hard person to please. i'd love for a trance only night to work something different from that hard style crap (IMHO) buti dont think we will get one anytime soon. Small steps first maybe a uplifting trance room at future events?

Stips, my advice is that if u have the opportunity to start a night like altitude, go for it.

Sydney seems quite similar in music styles to Melbourne, too much hard house, too much "hard trance," too much funk/breaks/house. There seems to be a massive market out there for trance nights, why else would thousands of people turn up to events like PvD and TT?

If done properly, it will be a resounding success...

I, for one, would love to see a trance night in melbourne. As long as it is at a decent venue, it will attract the right numbers and people.

I'm sick of bubble and hk. ZOS is pretty close to uplifting, but not exact - but it's a good venue.

Hopefully such a night will get up off the ground and start making all of us melbourne TA's proud. I'm even willing to put some time into this to speed things up if the need arises.

Fingers crossed...

Yeah if you were thinking of starting it yourself Stipsy, then you've got a few people around here who'd be willing to heavily promote it for you.

I'm not sure the scene's big enough to support a weekly event but you'd definately fill the joint if you made the night bi-weekly or monthly. Also, I'm not sure that restricting it to pure uplifting trance is the best idea in the world (assuming you want to at least break-even): I'm thinking a crasher-esque type playlist, so you aren't restricting yourself purely to trance, but it would still form the basis of the night (i.e. anthem after anthem).

As for venues, well I'm sure you know more about how this works than I do, but I'm thinking something Rosati's (especially when you get the sunrise through the skylights ) or Billboard are quite accessible as well as being semi-decent venues to hold such an event.

Anyway, I'm just talking shit off the top of my head I think. Hope it helps.

Oh, and when I say "accessible" I mean that they should be possible to hire out (I'm thinking the Sunny-Side Up parties at Rosati's and the underage events at Billboard that the guy in the year below me was able to throw at Billboard).

Still though, I'm not really an expert on throwing events (suprisingly) so I'm not sure how much use this is going to be.
