Another cool tune from you, Rich. I personally wasn't feeling the percussion, but I enjoyed nearly everything else. Are you the vocalist?

Great use of distortion all the way through this beast. I'm really enjoying your synthwork as per usual.

Cheers Owse, glad you like the synth work. Me on vocals.
Percussion I like for once - I don't usualy like my percs - what would you change in the track - don't hold back!

Hi Rich,

Gave this a listen.

Will be as straight up as I can without being rude

In essence this is a good track and the idea is fantastic.

The quirky bass works nicely and the vocal samples are really cool. It has a feeling of the track 'Dirty kitchen floor' which is one of my old favorites.

I am with Owsey on the perc part though. Although there is nothing that is badly done (on the contrary in fact) there is nothing that gives this track the drive that it really needs. It might just be something as simple as an off beat hi hat that makes all the difference.
Perhaps make every other clap crack almost like a whip (Keep in mind that I am rambling as if I had written it myself and it's a question of artistic content that I am talking about).

As you write bass driven quirks much like myself there needs to be an element of drive and I feel that the percussion lacks that. This makes this track seem like it has a long intro that leads to the break and you don't quite get a sense of everything developing up to that point.

The break is nice but I would like get a better payload from this track, perhaps by really opening up the filters on the bass so that it sounds really nasty. With bass I have found that the deep frequencies deliver groove/funk, but the real dirt actually comes from the mid to highs. At this point I would also perhaps introduce another percussive element.

I think this has great potential though and would also love to have a crack at remixing this. If you feel included to send me the audio parts (MP3 is fine) then I would love to give my interpretation of it.

Let me know your thoughts

Meester Nem

Cheers NEM - parts enroute.

So I'll send bits I think you may want to consider for the remix. I'll turn off any mastering.

Cheers.
PS - I agree on the drive.

I'll agree with what's already been said, although the percs don't bother me that much.

What I am gettting is there's no real drop, the track feels a bit too 'buildupy' all the way through.

Skillfully mixed as always, and I still believe that you can hear the hardware coming through (if this is all software keep it to yourself )

Nice

Definitely not something I'd hear myself playing, but that's just because it ain't my sound.

The sounds are awesome, and unlike some others, I don't mind the perc at all. What I do mind is the lack of a definitive drive. With quirky bass lines and high level percs, the lack of a drive is apparent. The break didn't do a whole lot to build back into the back half of the track for me either.

The mixdown is completely lovely. Other than that I don't know what to say really.

At 2:13, there's a guitar sounding thing that feels like Garage Band to me, and it just doesn't sound cool. I would try to replace that with something harder sounding, as it is I just don't feel it fits (too clean/light/preset sounding).

Other than that, it's a fucking excellent track

Cheers

thanks for the compliments on the sounds and percs - a few people mention lack of drive - I did originally have much more driving basses but they kept spoiling the psace for me - perhaps my initial instincts were right tho

NEM is going to try a remix - I'm glad to have a restfrom this for now.

Well thanks, but mmm, well spotted on the guitar - it's a Roland preset slapped staight in - I'll get onto it.
I suspect a lot wont like the 'chorus' as it strips back to not much but lately thats a sytle I like.

I get exactly what you mean about 'too builduppy' - originaly I had a traditional melodic break but somehow I just let myself let the track take me in a bit of a feltfield direction form good or bad.

Yep, you can hear my new Leipzig analogggggg synth. I lurve it, bnut hasten to add, I love the software too (sometimes).

I'm not sure about the mix on this one - it lacks power.
