The ceremony was very interesting.
The best part was the last speaker, Major General Ryan Renolds. Most of the time when people speak at these events, the comments are very PC and positive. He did take the time to honor fallen soldiers, but then he got very real.
He said we should honor those fallen, but we have a very real problem building here at home: the way we take care of our returning veterans. He made some very good points about the veteran's appeal board, about the fact that there were so few actual veterans on it. 'how are a bunch of lawyers supposed to understand what I am going through' he stated about the appeals process.
He was the only speaker that received an applause, and he fully deserved it. I couldn't believe how many medals the man had, and if he is bringing up this point, I am inclined to believe him because of his experience.
Please make sure to call your MP and demand better treatment for those that are willing to make the ultimate sacrifice. I hate war, but I think we should be taking the time to protect the very people trying to protect us.
