Inxec & Matt Tolfrey - Hollywood Revisited EP [Culprit]
Clovis on the board with his first remix! Rrrreeeespect! From the press release:
quote:
With its ninth release Culprit revists its most successful song to date and pays homage to its homebase of Hollywood - a place that exists beyond the stereotypical sheen of polished red carpets and "plastic" people - a salute to the creative vagrants who flock here from all over the world. Society’s renegades, who in coming together, created a sun drenched metropolis unlike any other.
Sexy late night funk, jazzy stripped down house and playful percussion all feature across a four track re-mix package of Culprit’s Beatport chart topping EP ‘Hollywood’ from Matt Tolfrey & Inxec, released earlier this year. The remix package features Culprit fave Lee Curtiss, a debut for the emerging LA talent Clovis as well as two re-works from Matt Tolfrey & Chris Sylvester aka Inxec themselves.
Lee Curtiss has really come into his own over the last 18 months as a producer, honing a unique style that combines genuine emotive deepness with ballsy masculine percussion. Both are showcased on this remix...with lush pads, a cleverly humorous vocal (his own) and Immaculately sound designed drums. Curtiss creates a general mood of sultriness.
In both Tolfrey + Inxec reworks the duo opts to cut, twist and distort the original vocal sample, while experimenting with different drum elements. At Night is a deep, moody percussive workout that, essentially, amounts to a new song, while Downtown Dub dabbles in break-beat textures and offers a more playful take, staying closer to the original.
Clovis is an artist groomed within Culprit from the label’s beginnings, and is now coming into his own with a debut remix for the label and original tracks to follow. Clovis’ remix takes a more spaced out jazzy approach to his reworking, with a heavier focus on melody. Introducing piano and sax samples at the half-way mark, Clovis delivers a blissed out intimate groove, perfect for after-hour settings.

Levels is...decent...damn better than a lot of the shite dominating the charts at the moment. It sounds absolutely nothing like...a billion and one similar tracks in this big-room style. I always had a soft spot.

the original mix never particularly jumped out at me (though i did end up buying the release) and the downtown dub sounds too much like the original if you don't count that part in the sample where they change the percs. lee curtiss remix for me though, solid groove in that version.

How can you make an awesome track even more awesome?
EDIT: Where can I get the bear-picture again in 1680x1050?
EDIT 2: Both the Lee Curtiss and Clovis remixes are hot as hell.

Well I'm working on stuff and he's working on stuff, but I don't see our paths crossing studio-wise in the near future.
