Well I hear the Manly Reference Gold is a really good bet. I also hear good things about the AKG c 12 reissue.

a) There is no such thing a 'best' microphone
b) Your DAW has no bearing on the recording quality of your microphone

I can testify that both the microphones this dude mentioned are an excellent choice.

Never used a USB mic, but Samson make some pretty decent looking ones.

If you're not producing the next Miriah Carey track tbh I think most mics will do, especially if you're gonna go postal on your vox and fuck them up like they all are theses days.

I genuinely lmfao when I read that.

Some people are so desperate to come off knowledgable on this forum they often miss how immensely dumb and arrogant they sound.

NO FUCKING SHIT theres no "best" microphone theres also no "best" ANYTHING in this world but if you speak English you would realize wtf the OP was asking.
gzus christ why do people on ta insist on being snobby cvnts like its going out of style?

"oh lala let ME tell YOU buddy I KNOW my shit and there is NO "best" microphone out there" JUST SHUT UP, SHUT THE FUCK UP AND ANSWER THE FUCKN POST OR GO JUMP OFF A BRIDGE. Or do what I do and learn when its appropriate to be an asshole, like right now.

And to answer the post cryo knows microphones rather well as I've seen him answer these threads before. But I'm using a $50 radioshack mic on FL Studio right now and I've honestly never noticed a single thing wrong with the sound quality. But I also don't do a lot of vocal tracks and if I did I'd likely splurge for something better.

Thanks heaps

Really appreciate your input on this, i just purchased the audio technica usb, it seems to be very sensitive, maybe i should have purchased a shure, i heard they have less sensitivity therefor only picking up vocal and not background noise from other band members when recording?

I don't know about the mic you've bought so any comments will be guesswork, but it could be the pickup pattern allows more room noise than something like an SM57.

I have an M-Audio Solaris and an SM57 and the difference in background noise is huge, the SM57 is far more directional.

Perhaps return the USB mic and track down an SM57 instead. You will need an audio interface to connect it to your computer obviously.

your DAW is no concern in Mic choice

would focus on Mic / Pre amp / converter

you can go from cheap ass USB mics (the're crap, even though the might look like a Neuman) to Shure directly on your soundcards mic pre amp /converter to VERY esotheric solutions with names like Avalon etc.

So what's the best mic? needs to be narrowed to "use, budget, expectations etc"

BUt let's be honest it's for EDM. So long as it picks up your vocals clear and loud, that's all there is to it.

We are not speaking on BBC radio, the vocals will be hidden behind walls of compressed synths and percussion. They will usually be timestreched or autotuned, verbed to death, EQed, compressed, delayed, stereo seperated, bitcrushed, filtered, gated, the lot usually.

I think the high end mics are gorgeous, but honestly tonal balance and purity of sound really won't matter in what we produce for 99% of cases.
