This doesn't quite have the oomph that Digital and Outrage's tunes had when this trend first (re)started, unfortunately. It's also unfortunate that the rest of Skream's album, from what I can hear, is yet another step towards mainstream money, with simplistic melodies and pop vocals all over the place. |
The tune with dbridge & instra:mental is nice, however I don't hear anything that couldn't have been added by those guys anyway, it's just like another of their tunes.
I do agree with the amen needing a lot of work, but it's a fun track for a while.
Jan, I saw a new release from Pilgrim, that name took me wayyyyyyy back, and apparently Randall is supporting the style too. We'll see in time if it becomes anything more than just a few tunes but it is nice to hear stuff like this.

That's cos Randall is one of the four guys (Outrage, Modular and Digital are the other three) who kicked off this whole revival to begin with by starting J-Tek Recs: http://j-tekrecords.ning.com/
It seems to be another small London-centric niche thing at the moment, but it's good to see it revived, as it wasn't really explored all that much when it first popped up in the breakbeat hardcore days.

Aye. it's fun even if it doesn't last for a long time, it reminds me of some of the very early stuff I encountered.
