DJ Charlie... in true XL fashion with my little added twist:
" GET A LIFE AND SHUT UP AND DANCE "

You may not like his music, but give the man respect that he deserves!

hey maybe this time Digweed will give him good tracks so he'll learn what good music is...

maybe after that we might enjoy his sets more.

did he play already or just get invited?

.. I'd be curious to listen to the set, as I've never really taken interest of XL, as I never make it to Sona on resident nights, and he plays at off hours at parties..

sometimes I wish I just could be careless and go out evrey weekend.. but at this point in my life I can't..

XL will be playing this friday at 6pm (our time).
XL is actually a highly talented DJ; I think that the sound system he plays on (Sona) doesn't really give us a good impression of his talent (I usually don't like his Sona sets too). But, I've heard him @ Celebration and other major parties as well as at Ilume and he was great!!!! It is probably because the sound systems there were calibrated perfectly for his genre and good quality (contrarely to Sona's systems and accoustics which are shitty!)..

Charlie, from your posts, I can obviously see that you love uplifting and epic trance and thats about it.. His style is probably as far as you can get from uplifting and epic trance.. and thats why you probably hate him.. But, trust me, he actually has great technique, great preparation and great trackselection... and is probably the biggest DJ to come out from montreal since Misstress Barbara (well, since Tiga, since Tiga is HUUUGGGGEEE in some European countries).

Nahhhh moose1111,

Mateo Murphy is way much bigger than XL.
Mateo Murphy is by far the greatest producer of Montreal. His tracks are always top charted by all top magazines and dj's. And all techno dj's are playing Mateo tracks I can tell you!

It's not like Tiga! Have you ever seen a track from Tiga himself? No
From Mateo ? Yes

Where you saw XL tracks top charted?
XL is not a bad dj but nothing to compare with Mateo Murphy!

But for sure Misstress Barbara still our well known dj from Montreal. She play every clubs in the world and she is playing at least 6-7 times a months out of the country.

Dude... seriously, are you on drugs? because XL is not great... at celebration, he played 6-7 hours, and the crowed literally died.. his music totally destroyed everyones night, mine included, which was spent sitting in the stands, waiting and waiting for MB... and the reason why there were so many left at 10 am, was for misstress barbara... if it wasn't for her, than the place would have been empty at 6-7 am... well except for the people that go there solely for the drugs, and dont care about the music... after MB's set at celebration, XL came back on to do an encore, when everyone was cheering loudly for MB, he started playing, everyone left... XL has legions of fans because these people are only there for the drugs... of course drugs are everywhere, but not more so flowing than at sona...

Biggy, true I completely forgot about Mateo Murphy... I have to say though that Tiga is huge in countries like Germany where his blend of electro is HUGE!!! It is extremely hard to determine the top DJ in Montreal because many of the criteria are highly subjective: track selection (subjective!), set building (subjective!), technical skills (he might not be the best, but he is pretty high up there), track editing skills (he is, IMO, pretty strong there! again, maybe not the best, but pretty strong!) and track producing (hasn't done much on this front yet!).

Technofreak, as far as XL is concerned, I think you people are making one big mistake about it; @ Celebration, a lot of people (defintly, people in the area where I was dancing) loved him and you defintly didn't need drugs to dance to his music.. Again, it all depends on your style.. I LOVE the Steve Lawler, Satoshi Tomiie, Sander Kleinenberg's of the world; you prefer the Carl Cox, Miss B, CHristian Smith's of the world. There is nothing wrong with either one. It is just a question of taste..

So, just learn to respect other people's tastes since there is enough room in the electronica scene for many styles.

I think that the fact that XL got choosen by Diggers to play on his radio show means a lot and just gives an idea of how good XL is. He might not be playing the style of music that you prefer but he is still great!!!!
