Tanner Ross & Sergio Santos - Boston

Tanner Ross is best known for his part in the homegrown mothership techno duo called Voodeux. He recently finished his degree in music studies from the renowned Berklee school of music in Boston and has also made several appearances under his own name on dirtybird. Sergio Santos 1st appeared on Wolf+lamb and Airdrop last year. He also happens to be Tanners room-mate. So its no surprise that these two ended up working together on some music.

What they came up with is quite surprising. Slow down the beats to about 116. Add some alien pads over heavily grooved bass and you come up with the G. Things EP, a spacey funk joint from another world.

While everyone chases the house dragon these guys sound like they are smoking weed with your girlfriend on a chocolate star ship headed for Neptune. The beats stick to your gut like smoked ribs andthe sound shimmers and shakes like a techno funk band.

Tanner Ross

Tanner Ross is just one of those super-producers. He has an ear like no other, has developed his own unique styles, and keeps everyone waiting to hear what’s next. Tanner has different aliases depending on his musical mood: his Voodeux moniker translates a super dark spooky stripped down techno sound, while the name Marcel Wave is characteristic of a sunnier and somewhat deeper atmosphere. Currently finishing his degree at the prestigious Berklee College of Music in Boston, this has not stopped Tanner from finding time to release EP’s for some of the most respected labels: Dirtybird, Mothership, Freerange, and soon Spectral. Tanner has played along many of the most talented artists in the US, such as Matthew Dear or Claude VonStroke.

Sergio Santos

Sergio Santos was thrust into DJ culture as a teenager growing up in the North of Portugal. It was there that Sergio discovered his passion for music and life that he holds true to today. Spending most of the mid 90′s attending parties and events all over Europe. It wasn’t until he would return to his birthplace, Boston, MA where he would begin to pursue and advance his love for music.

After landing back in Boston, Sergio got his first set of turntables back in 89′ and began honing his DJ skills. Since those days dance music has been at the core of Sergio’s life and after a decade of leading the pack in technical ability and the constant discovery of new records he has built a reputation as a true tastemaker and the title Boston’s best Techno/House DJ and afterhours king. Through residencies at world renown venues such The Pheonix Landing and now defunct super club Avalon, Sergio has shared the booth with a laundry list of acts including Paco Osuna, Tiefschwarz, Dixon, Doc Martin, Konrad Black, Ewan Pearson and the list goes on. In many cases Sergio has played a central promotional role in premiering these names within the New England scene.

Most recently Sergio’s focus has shifted toward production and has so far released music on Wolf + Lamb, Airdrop, Jonny White’s No.19 Music, Trapez and Mothership in collaboration with fellow Bostonians, close friends and roommates Soul Clap and Tanner Ross aka Voodeux. Their first release on Airdrop Records received critical acclaim and was featured on Chloé’s ‘Let It Slow‘ April mix for Tsugi, France’s top electronic music magazine. This summer Sergio will have an EP on Los Angeles based Culprit Records with Tanner Ross and Soul Clap as the Boston supergroup SECT, as well as a remix with Tanner Ross of Claude Von Stroke ’s 2009 hit “Aundy” on Dirtybird Records.
