Lightbulb Need some EQ help

I recently got told that my tracks sound very loud and messy and that I need to work on my EQing. I'm reading up on some tutorials right now but theres no better teacher than an actual person right? You can hear the tracks in question here

Ambient Chaos(BandPage)

Thanks in advance! These are some of my first tracks btw

EDIT:Fixed link

yeah, the link is to a page for AmientChaos instead of AmbientChaos. Really, this should be in the Production or Music Promotion forums, but since it's here...

The two I listened too - Electronic Wet Dream and These Words - were both sound compositionally, but, yeah, were kind of muddy. These Words was better - it was mostly the high end that was kind of cluttered, and the low-mids felt kind of empty, making it hard to hear the claps and hats. Electronic Wet Dream needs work - the kick really lacks presence (at least to me, and I'm listening on my headphones). Also, stop using Boo Bass and FL Slayer as the primary elements in a track - they can be good as just the backing to a track, but they really aren't good synths.

Thanks for the advice. By cluttered do you mean to much going on at one time or do you mean I need to drop the high freq in the EQ? And vice versa with the low end. Do I need more going on or do I need to boost? Thanks for letting me know on the kick. My sound setup includes a sub and the kick is very present on it. I need to start double checking with headphones I suppose. I only used FL Slayer on Clouds of Ash. I totally agree on its quality as a synth. Thanks for the advice on boo bass though. I've been expanding my knowledge of sytrus programming and I feel I'm getting better. I'll probably be programming sytrus for my basses from now on. Thanks for helping a novice out ;D

and btw if this is in the wrong subforum sorry!

Yeah, you can get some pretty good basses out of Sytrus. With both the highs and the subs, you want to EQ the highs out of synths that don't need the high end, and the lows out of synths that don't need it. It helps me sometimes to think in terms of octaves; the high overall doesn't have too much going on, but the "C8" octave might be a little cluttered. It can help to just drop a synth up or down a few octaves to free up some space.

tl;dr: Don't remove elements, just EQ some parts of synths out, while trying to keep the important frequencies in.

Ah! I get it! I'll try it now. Before I had been only equalizing everything not each synth individually. That definately helped. Thanks for the detailed info. You've been a lot of help. Can I nominate you for some kind of awesome award?! Lol. Thank again!
