Nice work, dude, the track is well mastered and flows nicely. I don't mean to point this out in a negative manner, but this isn't all that psychedelic, as there simply isn't enough variation. I thought the sample work was done well, however some of the buzzy saws had a tad too much reverb. Perhaps the delay on the spoken samples were a little overdone, as it would repeat almost endlessly (I'm sure you were going for that effect, but constant repetition isn't psychedelic in my mind). The samples were hysterical though, and I couldn't stop laughing at some of them! "I think we're dying" or "what's the score of the redwings game" were definitely my favorite ones
As far as my statement on it not being very psychedelic, and the necessity of variation, this track was nice and trippy, but not that psychedelic (I'm having a hard time explaining this lol). I felt like you should have done more work with the beat, to make it switch up a little bit, or grind a little, maybe some reverses, just some breaky stuff. I felt like you had breaks in this track, but not enough to really be classified psychedelic breaks (as I have heard my fair share of that). In addition to this, I felt another more pronounced synth, or melody should have been incorporated to add to the track's structure.
Still, mark this one as a Win, because it was nice, and I enjoyed listening to all 10 minutes of it, but I think that more work can still be done with this. Cheers!

I think you've accomplished what you set out to do rather well. I'm certainly satisfied by the translation between your description of the track and the track itself. Some additional thoughts of mine are on your SC.

Any chance I can get the sound file of the call from you? I'd like to try an ambient house kind of Orb take on it. |
Here's the source file:

I could dry out and put up my heavily edited version, if you guys want that. If you go with the source, fast attack/slow release compression with a 12 (or so) decibel soft-knee is your friend and you'll want separate tracks for the male and female vocals as the 911 operator's signal is much louder with higher frequencies that really dig into the mix.

It's totally psychedelic, man. You just have to hear it out on a loud club system. /pot-addled wank.
Seriously, thank you, sir. Good to have some pointers from the professor on this. Glad you liked it, too, even if it is just run-of-the-mill breaks. I actually like to do a lot more synth work than I did with this track - even though all of the back-ground work is the most labor-intensive work I've done in quite a while. That was an area I held back on, somewhat deliberately, but perhaps mistakenly.

LOL! funny and not bad to me. Some things i dont like are personal preferences so pointless to point them out. I think theres room for improvement in the overall sound, but i think you did a pretty good job. a little surprised you didnt add a breakdown type section, to let some psychedelics explore. |
I gave serious consideration to slowing down the entire thing, right around the time the cop is going, "Time is moving really, really, really slow" and doing a Josh Wink style tempo-increase drop but I am running on a stock sound card which reacts very, very poorly when some of Sonar's more advanced features are implemented. It's definitely something I'd take up on a more robust system than what I've currently got.

Thank you, sir. I was kind of trying to set the story to music while referencing the sense of elongated time and paranoia one gets on certain herbal substances. Of course, I'd love to hear it on those substances, myself - just to check.
Er, really...

When I hear psychedelic I think of psy-trance which in comparison to this is a lot different. But never the less, another good track from you Eddie |
Again, thanks. Glad you liked.
Also, glad you guys got the humor of it. If I was writing to a punch-line (of which there were several), my favorite part is when he's remarking on his mother-in-law's arrival.

left a few comments on soundcloud... Been the pub the last few hours so spelling mistakes, etc please ignore!
I liked the track though, bit darker at the start growing into a more lighter ending, worked well with the recording you sampled

i've never considered a gater a mixing tool, but the guide clarified me some things, i always have been doubting if 0-40hz frequencies played a role in sounds, i bandpass 0-20hz always but in the kick i leave 20-40, now i think i'll cut this too unless i want people to start vomiting while listening my music, something that could make my music powerful and unbeliveable... choices.
