I did full body work on my BMW (removed numerous scratches, 2 rust spots, gave it a fresh coat of paint) for about $1500, so I would say the guy is tryin to rip you off.

well here's what happened. i tapped him in the parking lot and told him cause he wasn't around. he tells me he will go to a bodyshop that "won't rape me." so then he leaves me a message that the guy says it would cost around $800 and that THE BODYSHOP OWNER RECOMMENDED GOING THROUGH INSURANCE.

that caps part doesn't add up for me, so i was thinking either the shop didn't want anything to do with it since it wasn't a moneymaker or the guy got a real low quote and wants to see if he will do better with insurance. maybe i'm just paranoid...

but i thought the same thing that it was a rip because there is no way i did $800 going 1mph with that little scrape. there is nothing to replace and the labor must be minimal i would assume.

The car is a write off.

Sounds high but there are somethings to consider. First, a reputable body shop will want to do it the right way because if they cut corners it reflects poorly on their reputation. As a results parts plus labor are going to be expensive. The cheap way in this situation would be fill in the dent and a quick re-paint. The right way would replace the part and then feather the re-paint to the original which takes time and experience by a pro.

yea but there was no dents, that's extra work and paint is not cheap, you just had to get more paint than it is needed for this work but its the same stuff

to paint a door and fix dents on it is like 4bills
