Female Stand-Up Comedians: Can you recommend me some?

This Christmas, I decided I'd learn more about female stand-up comedians. I like Sarah Silverman and Margaret Cho so I figured there should be some more funny women out there. Even here on TA, there are girls whose wit I really like, and I decided I'd prove Christopher Hitchens wrong. Women can be funny... sometimes.

And, I can't say I had much success. I found PKC's sister, who's actually funny..ish...

And, that's it. I'm still pretty puzzled when it comes to American culture, and it may well be a cultural shock, but there's something about minorities in the US that still strike me as pretty unusual. You sort of have to make sure people know where your parents are from... For example, Vijai Nathan looks hilarious, but she seems to talk about nothing but India. Esther Ku seemed to have some potential on "Last Comic Standing" despite the constant jokes based on Asian stereotypes... yeah, you've got funny eyes and Margaret Cho sort of covered these jokes before... but she really proved me that stand-up comedy is actually pretty hard, specially when you're (probably) high:

I mean, that's one messed up deliverance... she went from pornography to Jews so fast only Freud probably got the connection. Anyway, maybe those "ethnic" jokes are the easiest to make, and everything else is a bit of a challange, even Galactic Battlestar (which should be easy to mock).

CORe version/Main question: Although I did find some funny girls out there, this is more difficult than I imagined. Any recommendations?

Strippers tricking me into thinking they're comedians. Or jokes, whichever I find first.

I think Mary Lynn Rajskub is hilarious. Her stage presence reminds me of Mitch Hedberg a little bit.

Just because she might need to work out a bit, that doesn't mean you need to get me hooked on meth as well.

obviously but what else?

Usually, when a guy is looking for a funny female stand-up comedian, I can't imagine what else he would expect other than jokes and the occasional fanservice. For example, when I'm looking for female dj's, I'm there for the music, but I admit there may be a bonus.

I like her because she looks like shes just about ready to pick up a knife and stab someone in the eye. Which is a quality i appreciate in female comedians...as they dont have much else going for them

I suggest you embrace the idea that there are simply more male comedians. It doesn't matter to me the gender of the comedian, either they're funny or they're not.

It doesn't mean women can't be funny, they just pick other career opportunities. I'm not sure why men dominate the field. If the underlying reason is that men's psychological make up favors being a lone wolf and getting up in front of a bunch of strangers to try to make them laugh or whether its a society thing where women are taught to be polite and nice.

Did you see why I called that woman your sister? That clip reminded me of you instantly

(her hate for CT's and people that say their dreams are weird and proceed to tell them)

Actually, if we're going down that road, I think it's because women appreciate a guy with a sense of humour more than the other way around. Or so I read...

I'd lean towards the society thing too. In grade school if you wanted get the ladies attention you'd either do it athletically or comedically or some combination of the two. Where as women figure out the way to do it is through appearance.

True. Actually, playing an instrument also helped, as I recall it. I usually just wrote the "class newspaper", and that was the only comical success I had back then

If you think of it instrument falls under the performing to impress umbrella. The only exception I can think of is dance.
