2 minutes of fx challenge

had this idea last night as i was finishing up a track. i started mangling stuff. So, I thought this would be a fun, anyone can participate obviously. Post a soundcloud embed of about 2 minutes of fx, mangling; have fun. Make this from scratch and dont post something you've made before already. Maybe someone will ask you a question and some synthesis talk can be had. Im going to start mangling in a few hours. I say soundcloud, but anything that can embed would be a good idea. looking forward. paging jbj.

so in short, post a freshly made 2 minute soundcloud embed of some Fx work, watch out that its not killer on the ears, as people might want to listen to it. feel free to describe or document your processes.

most of my best effects are from mangled samples... I might still post one.

If you wish to make FX from scratch, you must first invent the universe.

Joking aside, lemme see what I can come up with.

whatever, its up to you: its definitely something new one could learn from. So I just had a go, at first I was getting a headache and thought this was a very bad idea... toned down the resonance and added one harmonic element to help me move the sound along. Everything minus the harmonic low element was generated by noise oscillators as you will obviously hear ^^. I didnt do much synth routing because that is not my forte, just did some basic oscillator to filter mods and lfos.

there is so much automation happening, 20 instances of automation on the main synth I chose as the backbone. Also, a neat trick i picked up was automation of the distortion types, you will hear that. used many comb filters, i usually have the most fun with those. formant filters were also used you might be able to pick it up. a lot of resonance. Im definitely going to try this challenge again.

pretty cool, sounds pretty eerie like something that would be played in the background of a video game like half-life 2 or a zombie game or something

ya it wasnt really a piece per say, i could have added many more harmonics. im a little bummed i didnt level it out more, so that some of the fx dont pop out more, but something i will definitely do on the next one. i do hope we see some activity here.

jbj, really nice effects: looking forward to hearing more from you if you get around to making more. I have found a new appreciation for "noise" today... heh. I had to make one more, which was sort of a build off 001. no harmonic elements in this one.

FX Challenge by DeepEddieZilker

I made this for a break on a song I'm working out.

Honestly, the stuff you and JBJ made is definitely cool and a lot more detailed than mine. Mine is pretty much a signal coming from an NNXT cored Combinator and into a signal processing Combinator where it is split up into five different effect chains and and tweaked to crescendo.
