Something smooth, with texture and depth

todays excercise was to create something smooth as butter, with nice soundscapes, delicate layers and a lead that feels like a spring shower.

the first 4 mins are the, still need to finish it, but i was so curious for feedback, thought to share it now

p.s. I've decided to stop with "ear candy" in my music, so no more uplifters, snarerolls, sidechained whitenoises or downlifters, just "plain" synthesizer music, let the music do the talking rather than the FX

sounding really good! personally I would lower the subbass a bit, or lower some note velocities, and raise the 1:25 lead.

Cool! Lots of layers you got going, in the end, doing some fairly intricate stuff with the music. Really love the interaction with this.

Word to the wise listener: Let it build.

I like it.

ThnX guys, more opinions on the sub? sounds good here, nice and filling, but maybe in some smaller rooms with standing waves it might be a bit too much?

Sounded balanced, nice and crisp, here, and I think I've got more bass running through my latest entry so take that for what it's worth.

ThnX Eddy, BTW, can you explain me your vocals in your magic wonderland remix? I can not get my head around it why they are placed as they are, i understand the delayed verbs and the chorus /bridge later in the song, but what acts as verses, i can't relate them to any groove? and they really sound like they are in a different tempo there. running in and out of sync.

For me that's really the one thing that craving to be corrected, for the rest the mix is impressive. But i seem to be the only one not getting it?

I'm going to answer your question, in my thread, since I don't want to trash yours with discussion about my song, but I'm working on a post, right now.

sub sounds fine here, but I'll give another listen in my better cans later. You definitely achieved delicate layers, doesn't seem like anything is battling with each other.

Sounds like a good start.

Can't comment on the mix itself as soundcloud shat all over your hats and I hear apparent aliasing, so I assume the rest isn't quite right either.

The low-end floor could probably use another subtle fat layer to hold it together (on the threshold of just there, almost subliminal), maybe a side-chained string or deep pad in the bass's octave. Just sounds a bit hollow to me and lacks the total buttery warmth.

I think this track could actually benefit from a few accentuated snare rolls / breaks in conjunction with the reverse crash to give it some breathing room. Something where you peel everything back and leave just a synth or two and then build back into what you're doing.

I get the point of going minimal on the FX and noise, but in it's current state it feels like it just trudges along.

I quite liked the melody you made with the light arping and the sound selection was nice. Requiar moar.

Look forward to seeing where this goes.

Sounding good so far. I like the fudgy arps!

The mix could use more reverb and width imo, but it's an early version as you say.

Nice

thnx, the width i am not so sure if i want to increase that, i seem to be falling more and more for organic sounds and, really getting annoyed with the M/S, stereowideners and other toys, it changes the texture of certain sounds i a way seperates and eats away the density, and i am a sucker for dense thick sounds, with good texture.

alsop, not everything can be in the foreground, in need to alternate a bit more, let every sound shine, but the lead sounds as it is, becuase it has space to breath.

I also feel, and this might sound stupid, that i don't want to live up anymore to "trance genre expectations" uppers, downers, whooshes and washes, herretic pitched up tension builders and bombs. and all kinds of other stuff that people "expect" to be in tracks. It's all been done so many times before and when i for example listen to DJ EROS perfect mix, much better than i will ever be able to do.
So I just want to go back to basics, nice evolving palletes of sounds in interesting harmonies, not too exciting, but gentle on the ear, recognized on sound quality, not neccecarily on NU SOUND production tricks, i don't want to keep up with the latest tricks and trends anymore.

I've got my own label now and got my first Beatport statement last week, so no more dicksucking around and other guys messing up my releases.

So i guess what i am trying to say is that i, get out of the EDM ratrace, produce what i fancy, enjoy the feedback here and on soundcloud, pave my own path and be happy, (must be a winter depression LOL )
