Hehe nice.
As much as I'm not particularly boastful of his music or his productions, I will always have a lot of respect for Joel.

He seems bitter, especially towards the end of the interview. I've not really heard any of the stuff he's put out since 07/08ish but I always did admire how clean his mixes sounded.

The 4x4=12 thing is kind of a piss take on that because it’s really kind of formulaic. You look at a 4-bar-long clip stacked to another one, and then with an 8-bar or 16-bar loop or breakdown—but never a 6-bar one.
It is really uncommon, but Extrawelt uses a six bar bass loop as the foundation in "Soopertrack."
Must feel a bit odd for DJs to mix, though.

I liked how he said he can't record outside his studio I'm the same way. I also seem to record better just knowing I'm the only person in the house. Even if someones on the otherside of the house making small random noises I find it highly distracting for some reason. The more secluded I am the more focused my mixing always tends to be.

I work much better alone, too. It occurs to me now that I haven't gotten anything at all done since my girlfriend and I put our computers in the same room.

my work has to have like a 3 hour warm up. Otherwise i just don't get in the right frame of mind. 1 hour of sightreading then 2 hours of analysis. Then my brain feels warmed up.
seemed like a good interview. im sure its quite an immense challenge touring all over the place, when sometimes you just want to sit inside your home and or studio and just make music.

Reasonably interesting read. I like how the date of the interview is February 1st 2011.

I noticed that, too, but I just figured that with his busy schedule, the only way he can give an interview is to transcend the space-time continuum and do it in the future.

ZOMG What can Deadmau5 NOT do?!
Great interview, and I agree that he seems a bit bitter. Maybe he's just kinda douchey or something but he has a really active online presence which is cool. He even posts on TA from time to time.
