Blah blah blah, new hardware. Sure is convenient to not have to lug around 200 lbs of equipment for music production anymore. Now I just have a mac book pro, audio interface and midi controller. Travel back in time to 1990 when you had to buy stupid gear.

Besides who justifies buying that piece of hardware? Either you are a hobbyist and don't need it or you just trying to show off, like mastering engineers with analogue processing equipment (which half of them don't even have and just process the audio on the computer).

It's so much BS. It doesn't take money to write music. It takes time, patience and dedication. You need a computer, a keyboard and a audio interface with some halfway decent speakers (not even monitors man).
It's 10 times faster to just compose on a computer, rather then run to synth's, record audio and lalalallalaallalal.

Crap I'm so used to drawing precise volume levels that I don't even see how one of those would be useful at all for mixing. I mix to -5 RMS with peaks hitting just below 0.0 DB. How the F would you ever get that accurate with one of those stupid devices? The funny part is I bet you can't mix for shit and your the one posting needless gear to make yourself feel better about it.

You people here seriously need to have a reality check. Nobody plays melodic trance no more man. Ok wait I guess you are the people that keep people like Above and Beyond still in business, because everyone else doesn't write that shit anymore dog.

Back OT: I've been a member there for years. Never spent any time in the post-production forum, though. The electronic music forum has its share of good discussions, but most are pretty lame and there are far too many analog/digital/hardware/software debates or deadmau5 love/hate threads.

The three gear forums (hi-end, lo-end, so much gear/little time) are a joke, though. It's a great place to find out that every piece of gear ever made sucks ass - just ask any of the thousands of nobodys frequenting those forums. Almost everybody has a negative opinion about any piece of gear, even if they've never used it.

the thing is that people argue things they know little about. I was in this one argument having to explain this retard that the Beatles were not harmonically complex. I like them but this guy was saying that their harmony was on the same footing as Brahms and I even anaylyzed the track the guy said had so many key changes which actually turn out to be only 2. Just frustrating. If you don't know what you are talking about, just listen. I don't know anything about sports, I know this, and won't pretend. But god damn it, some people on there seem to think they know everything then of course they have their link to their website and it is just so damn pathetic.

Gearslutz isn't THAT bad! You will find know-it-all type pricks practically everywhere online. There's lots of useful information in there with many experienced engineers contributing. You just have to sort through the shit to reach the good stuff.
