I talked to the owner of the yamaha's and amp and he said he is selling because of the noise of the fan from the amp. Or should I just buy the yamaha ns-10m and buy a separate amp?
depending on what are you after NS10s have a very nice midrange, but their low end sucks just as much as HS50s, that is if lowend is what you're after. Mixes from ns10s do translate very well on a wide variety of systems but their sound is rather harsh and tiring for your ears after prolonged exposure. Do take this in the account.
In your place i would save a few more hundred and get something decent used off craigslist/ kijji or check Long and Mcquade for used stuff they do have decent deals on monitors here n' there + you can buy warranty on used speakers which is a very nice bonus. HS80s seems to be a very popular choice for money these days.
well the yamaha hs80m's look like the ones i should look into getting. But in that price range the Adam a3x look like they could be of better quality. Anyone have any experience with using the adam a3x?

i think both adam and yamaha sounds like ass. do a search for monitors here and youll find pretty much all you need. in that price JBL LSR might be your best bet.

I don't care so much for how it sounds, I am more concerned on how well it translates to other systems. That is the whole reason I was interested in the Yamaha NS-10M, they sound like shit but they translate well to most systems. My ears will eventually tune in with the (shitty) monitors. Eventually as I get better, I will buy better quality monitors.

your ears wont "tune in", they will end up giving you tinnitus. buy them and regret it, i dont care - im just telling it is the worst speaker ever made and its just a hype. you know most people put paper infront of the tweeter to make it sound right? theres a reason for it. might as well get a speaker that translate well AND sound good, it is actually possible today - even for a short budget. forget about that old shitty yamaha speaker. ESPECIALLY since your making edm (i just assume as this is TA), the bass is alot more important. please dont be religious. if you absolutely need to get yamaha (because youre a fanboy, or a religious fanatic or something) at least get the HS80. but I seriously advice you to get something else. And if you are one of those who had made up your mind already I really dont see why you are making a thread about it, so please delete it if youre not willing to listen to experienced people
edit: heres what you should get:

i think you have these confused with the original model sold decades ago. Even then , despite what engineers said about them, most good mastering engineers could point out an album mixed with them do their negative quality and characteristic deficiencies. Good speakers don't sound good or bad, they just mirror what is actually there.
I was actually thinking of getting the HS80M's but I'll also look into the JBL's even though I always believed JBL were more geared towards live sound.
And by tuning I meant that one's ears becomes accustomed to monitors over a certain period of time. You eventually learn the monitors and in result work better with them.
