Thumbs up BT nominated for Grammy (Best Electronic/Dance Album)

BT has been nominated for the first time in the "Best Electronic/Dance Album" Grammy category for his studio album "These Hopeful Machines".

---------------------

Anybody who's been around for a while knows how big of a BT fan I am. Brian Transeau is a brilliant musical mind and I am very happy to finally see his work recognized by the academy.

I've followed BT since his 1997 "Electric Sky Church Music", with "Flaming June" being one of my favorite songs of all time.

I encourage you to check out "These Hopeful Machines" - the album has received critical acclaim and very positive listener reviews. Listening to this album I can definately say it is some of BT's best, most thoughtful and forward thining music while still keeping the melody and hooks grounded - making it an enjoyable listen.

Congratulations BT! You deserve this!

Wasn't he also nominated for "this binary universe"? I did not enjoy that album at all, and found it too sparse.

I'll check out "These Hopeful Machines". I'm a huge fan of his older stuff, and "Ima" is one of my all time fav albums.

Anybody remember him at Ultra Spin (3?) with James Holden and Ferry? Best Ultra Spin Ever.

What a pity! I love love LOVE This Binary Universe. It's such a finely nuanced work. Excellent on my ipod or in proper surround sound as it was meant to be listened to.

BT introduced me to the concept of electronic music and I've been a huge fan of his work ever since the late 90's. These Hopeful Machines is a solid offering and I'm thrilled to see him recognized

I would love for more albums to be produced in 5.1. Even when using fake surround for electronic albums, it adds something, and makes the experience that much more immersive.

I remember hearing that he kicked out a power plug while fucking about onstage at Coachella or something, too. Poor guy's a bit accident prone.

I'll admit that his behaviour in recent years has been a little strange, but you can't deny his technical prowess. It's a double-edged sword though, as I feel said prowess and over-tweaking hurt a lot of the content on Machines by overcomplicating otherwise solid material; "Every Other Way" being an example of riding the line dangerous line between content-driven and "look-what-I-can-do-with-micro-editing"-driven music. Tracks like "The Emergency" just nail it for me, but then "Nocturne" just overdoes it.

Pretty solid effort though, definitely has a pop-friendly edge to it and I'm glad it's getting him a little more widespread recognition.

Antikythera Mechanism is one of the greatest pieces of electronica in the past decade.. People will still listen to it 100 years from now. So beautiful.

The rest of the album is very experimental.

Jen have you heard BT's soundtrack for Monster?

Sure have Chris! It's what inspired This Binary Universe. I totally agree with you about Antikythera Mechanism. I just love that whole album.
