personally i like the vestax better. i think the pitch slider feels better to use than the 1200's, and of course it's a nice and powerful table.

i cant believe that this debate is still going on?! not that its a bad thing but you are going to get people who will say 1200 and people who will say vestax! so wht i say is go to a local store if possible and try out both decks and pick the ones that you prefer and think you are more comfortable using!

Big Dave is right... but you still have to think about your dj career... Are you doing this for a hobby just for some small parties etc? Or do you want to eventually play in clubs? If your going to play in clubs, Your better off with the techs since that's what you will be most likely playing on... Just my 2 cents

what i am going to say is pretty much the same with what others have said far up until now.

both tables come with advantages and disadvantages...

- -Technics: technics made a great table, and it was built like a tank. i guess that's because that's the way things were build in the seventies. I's stable, self serviceable, well built+QUALITY.

- -Vestax: pdx2000, two guys who OWN them told me this: they were extremely overpriced, not very good quality, but with many many features. for trance dj's they're all unusable+has some motor rumble issues.

from what people have told me in scratch dj equipment forum:
technics are tanks, but nothing spectacular on them. vestax features really are great, but low quality/high price. both of them need a way to keep prices low right ???

there is another option though, that should strongly be taken into consideration:

Numark: previously made pretty bad LOW QUALITY tables that SUCKED, ttx-1's are made in another factory, quality equal to the 1200+features far better and unique than the vestax. It also is so f*cking versatile, you could really use it ANY way, ANY style you want! their torque is unreachable, it's platter won't pool-off your arm though. yeap it's another tank, coming straight from star wars!

they sure are a little bit pricey! you can find pdx or techs for 400$ each or even less, ttx-1's are 499$no discount,"anywhere". i think it's worth the money though! (no worries, prices fall don't they?)

something to remember about the ttx-1, what i've written here is coming from scratch dj's, those guys really KNOW what means quality. it's like hammering their decks while scratching. a guy there told me that he sold his own techs for ttx-1's!!!

one more thing: if it's not for ttx-1's, don't give away your tech in ANY way... there are no decks competing techs, except for the ttx-1's.

The main things with new TT's is this : sure they pack more features, and on paper they are better than techs. I can say some ARE better in some ways than techs (ttx1 for example), but...

Techs have proven to be reliable, they are built like tanks, and if something happens to be broken, it's easily replaceable.
Those new TT's may be better, but you can't say they are reliable, not yet. Most of these TT's don't even exist for 5 years (and one major thing I hate about Vestax is to discontinue a lot of their old equipment when something new comes out, not a problem at first, but once their replacement parts stock is down...). Also newer equipment has complete integrated electronics to reduce costs. If something breaks, it's a whole pcb that needs replacing.

The discussion Technics vs the rest has been there a long time, and will probably go on for a lot longer still.
I'm not the one to say get that or get that, each one has his own preferences (I don't like the pitch fader of the pdx2k for instance, on the other hand Chrono likes them...).

I think you have to look at it on two sides. Either you go for decent quality and many features (which you may not use) or either you go for established reliability. And for now only Techs have this in favor of them. You'll have to really wait some years to see a change in that.

IMHO, if you need more features than a 1200 has, shouldnt you been looking at CD decks anyhow? :P

I haven't really spun on the Vestax decks before, but I have felt them and got a close look at them before. If you're mixing, then the straight arm is not useless, but its something that you really odn't need. The vestax will wear out your vinyl faster, or so I have heard.

It seems to me that the vestax decks lack the quality parts that the technics have. Techs are so precise and intricate that you can't deny that it is a great table.

the pdx does have more torque than the techs though which is a good thing. but it has stuff that i don't think you need. If you're gonna get gimmicky with the table, might as well go to CD decks like meridian mentioned.

BUT, if you really like the vestax, then go for it. Its your preference.
