I liked Michael Connelly’s early crime stuff (later stuff might be good too but its been years since I read one). Patricia cornwell’s early stuff was pretty good too but then she really went to shit.

The Swedish novels "The girl who played with fire" and other two- I've heard are really good & suspenseful. I haven't read them myself but the movies were great.
