if you're around on a friday or saturday night, go check out yumla.
pretty much the only place in hk that plays techno/minimal/house regularly.
its owned by dan f who is a producer and a sound engineer.
basically the only place i go if i go out. has an awesome sound system.
check it out if you can!

- Go to Tsim Sha Tsui, walk around the Promenade and enjoy this fantastic view. If you have enough time, you should go there in the afternoon too. There are a lot of modern shopping malls nearby that sell luxury products. Every night at 8pm there's a big laser show there, I have only seen picture but it looks a bit cheesy to me.

From there you can take the Ferry to Central, which is a really nice experience (if you don't get sea sick easily).

- Take the Peak Tram to the Victoria Peak. Try to go on a clear day, if you're lucky you will have a similar view as below, but probably not because Hong Kong is often clouded/foggy.

- Tai-O is traditional fishing town, it's really fun to see, especially as a contrast to all the skyscrapers around most parts of Hong Kong. There's also a big fish markets that sells the weirdest looking dried things from the sea.

On the same island (Lantau Island) there's also the Big Buddha. If you decide to go there, make sure to take the cable car)

- Stroll around through the Temple street market (night market)

- Have dimsum

- If you can handle it, try snacks from one of the many small food stalls on the street, like fish balls, fresh egg waffles. Don't come crying to me if you get diarrhoea though.

- Most expats/foreigners go out in Lan Kwai Fong, which is a little area in Central with many restaurants and bars. It'd probably be hard to find a good party there, but if you just wanna grab a beer then it's pretty nice. It's pretty expensive though!

- I really enjoy just walking around aimlessly in Kowloon or Causeway Bay and take pictures. It's the best way to breathe in the lively Hong Kong vibe. Seeing old worn out appartment buildings next to super modern office buildings, busy markets, people selling all kinds of stuff on the street, small food stalls, old people playing card games (in less busy areas) on the street etc etc. Keep in mind it's extremely busy around rush hour, it can make you feel almost claustrophobic

stu may ban me if I post pics of my diarrheas, so no weirdish food. Good suggestions though. We will be having the good dim sum and visiting the irish pubs. we are staying on the central side one metro stop away from Lan Kwai Fong, so I am sure I will be there often.

thanks!

I live in Guangzhou so I can tell you that in mainland China, food is even weirder than in hk... Anyway, you will not get diarrhea (the only time I suffered from food poisoning was after having some sushis). Dim Sum in HK are not as good as in Guangzhou but noodles in HK are excellent.

Yumla is indeed a very nice venue, the cocktails are cheap and the sound is really good.

About the city itself the other advice are good, so I'd recommend to go to the territories, rent a kayak and a tent, and camp on some random beach (there is absolutely no one).

Winning.

On that note, my bike has been in my trunk for a few days waiting to get a tire fixed...it has been a while since I have been out.

And Noodles it is.
