Dance Music Thesis Survey

Hello,

I am a new user to Trance Addict but it didn't take me long to appreciate what a great forum this is for trance lovers!

For my University Thesis I have chosen to write about the evolution of the Independent record label and the effects of the internet on the dance music industry.

Part of the research is to obtain views and opinions from consumers, dj's and producers so tranceaddict is perfect!

The survey will only take 2 minutes, is 100% confidential and is for academic purposes only.

Thank you very much for your time, your views and opinions will add huge value to the study!

When I was at university I got so many surveys in my inbox from students doing dissertations and projects, and without exception they were all deeply flawed. Yours is no different. If I answer "Consumer" in the first question, several of the subsequent questions do not apply to me yet there is no option to skip them or provide a "not applicable" answer. That is a basic error. If you can't even write a competent survey you've fucked your whole analysis before you've even gathered any data.

Agreed. And it's not just the first question that's flawed. The entire survey needs to be re-done. For example, why can I not download from file hosting sites due to both convenience and time? And, why can I not be a DJ and a producer? You'll also need a 'not applicable' option on many of your questions: if I'm only a consumer, then the question 'how often do you perform' is non-applicable.

Naterae, I'd suggest scrapping the entire survey and starting over.

Thanks for the constructive criticism, I have amended the survey with multiple choice and N/A answers.

Good start. I think you should consider a few more changes though. For example, the question "Which format do you predominately purchase music in" implies that everyone purchases music. If I'm one to only download music for free, then this question is non-applicable. Furthermore, "how frequently do you purchase music" needs a 'non-applicable' option.

newly registered user asks for people to fill in a survey for his thesis
instead gets schooled on how to make a decent survey

Thanks very much to everyone that has contributed to the study by filling out the survey. I have had a great response and you have provided me with some really interesting data.

I am going to close the survey and collate all the information at the end of the week so if you haven't had a chance to fill it out yet please do before its too late!

Thanks again

Is this "university" thing only in Britain? Because in America we call it "college".
