Hi guys just looking some advice of weather a sound card is essential and if so can yous recommend any, note nothing to expensive on a budget at present.

My first soundcard was an M-Audio Audiophile 192 - nothing wrong with it at all.

audiophiles are great, but their other audio interfaces are garbage. Don't even get me going about their monitors.

Audiophiles are OK - it was my first soundcard about 12 years ago, and even though they're fine for basic use, things have moved on a whole lot since then.

I was trying to avoid this but....

The echo range offer way better quality value for money, not to mention balanced I/O, midi, usable mic pres and a headphone out, all in one well designed little box.
