Re: Music and Chess

So i was sitting on a sunday with a few beers and suddenly, i had this idea that different elements could represent various chess pieces in the chess game. For example, in certain genres, king and queen could represent bass and kick, and in other styles, towers and knights could function as Hooks, dominating the mix with its importance.
What you guys think? Could one take chess as a sport and use it as a concept during music making.
p.s. take a concept a little further, every music requires some kind of tension, trance especially, therefor there is always the notion of contrast, sugar and spice, good and evil etc. this could represent the opposite side or your opponent, as track progresses, think radically. Being a politics student and having paramount experience in music making industry, i found that one skill, sometimes gets you closer to the other, without having any kind of connection, it sort of happens spontaneously.. now you are free to tell me i smoke too much pot, but i would gladly engage in a heated conversation with the first person that tells me i am completely wrong.
Ping pong also comes into mind, especially during FX making, any comments? |
Well, I think most people have some sort of idea that they're going with when they music. If that idea is a an image, a concept or a sound doesn't really matter as long you are able to do something with it.
I would think a chess game might be a tad tedious though. Maybe rapid chess? :P
I personally think mostly about boobs when I produce. Boobs and vag.
Do you want the user to be able to hear the concept you're working on, or do you want it to be more of a general feeling in the track?
Something you could was take óne chess game in particular, then have two synths, one playing black one playing white. Then have one synth playing the movements or wtf it's called. bishop to c3? move the note to c3. queen to a4, move the note to a4 etc.. could make for an interesting synth line at least :P
also record chess pieces being moved around. could make some cool perc noises.
i often use pretty weird mathematical equations when i sequence. (that's a lie, i just draw naked ladies in the sequencer)
