Ive had 1 + 2 extenders
sold them and bought a Steinberg cc121
hard to read the channelstrip, too much layers for remote controll ergonomics and faders will start stuttering.

+1. The euphonix offereing are way better than the mackie but then again they're a lot more expensive.

I use the MC5 at work and the artist series uses the same long throw faders which are superb.

Don't get the edit one, just get the mix version as you get more faders rather than only a few and transport (and you don't need transport as key commands can do it all etc.)

I did look at the CC121 as a Cubase user, but can't really justify the £300+ for it's single fader.

I did lust after the Euphonix MC Mix for a while but I was sure i'd read it was being discontinued? Maybe that was just PC support if it ever had it. Either way I don't use a Mac so no go sadly.

Looks like it's a Mackie or nothing for teh PC. There's the M-Audio project mix, but I really don't want the interface I/O that it's got.

I would have thought there'd be more options. Weird.

Basically Euphonix are not going to support PC - They keep doing deals with apple packages that gives Apple exclusivity. You can run them via a cheap mac through Eucon but that's another story.

Your only other option is Behringer BCF2000 (or a few of them) - they're cheap as chips but do the job nicely. I hate Behringer but there's a couple of products that are outstanding and this is one of them. The only downside is that if you mix at low levels, the noise they make is going to piss you off, but if you're pumping teh schranz it shouldn't be a problem.

Hmmm, maybe i'll buy a BCF on Ebay and see how I get on.

Cheap enough to give away if I don't get on with it I suppose.

i have a bcf2000 - it gets the job done for sure. had it for 6 months or so. no problems.

about the noise thing, when you are using JUST your hands on the faders, they glide smoothly. The noise comes from manually moving channel levels in your DAW and volume automation. (Basically if they have to move without being physically moved, they are noisy)

What I do is find the busiest part of a mix, drop all channels to 0, and then (manually) slowly fade in each element until i'm satisfied. works like a charm.

I'll give the BCF a shot then I think.

Might be useful for a Battery sub mix too, hmmmm.

I have the bcr. That is great and cheap. Tried the bcf, found it too noisy and buggy. I use it with Bomes translator so I have all these macros assigned to specific action on the unit. When I use sibelius, I can fly with all sorts of shortcuts you would be able to do otherwise.I showed a friend the other day and his jaw dropped. Takes a while to memorize the settings but man once you do. Could be useful for any non music application. If there was a way to test people's speed on sibelius , I think I might be in the running for fastest guy on the planet.

Seriously though, using either for articulations is an interesting concept too. I'm toying with the idea of getting into Vegas too, so it may be handy for fades an' shit.

Before you run out and spend $1k on 8 channels, just read the FAQ as there are a few minor issues with Nuendo 4 and Cubase 5.5 but at least they seem to be working on it!
