One of the big things in the UK at the moment seems to be 'bass music' / 'uk bass' (worse name ever and not the same as what the US call 'bass music', i.e. Miami bass etc).

It's basically DJs playing a mixture of dubstep, wobbly/spacey techno and random associated stuff thrown in. Loads of the records sit between genres and use a lot of simple sounds (808 drums, cut up vocals, etc) but focus more on rhythms and basslines.

Ramadanman is a pretty good example.

There's a bit of a speed garage resurgence as well, because people have realised it goes quite well with dubstep.


Or maybe I've just been reading Resident Advisor too much.


Some would say you could just apply the '20 year cycle' rule to see what'll be big in the next few years - that predicts that pretty soon we'll start hearing loads of music which sounds like the early to mid 90s, so expect acid house, brit-pop, boy bands, diva house, jungle and east coast vs west coast hip-hop rivalries.

im pretty sure the future will be house. it has proven to withstand the tooth of time. i dont know when house music really started (87?) but it wasnt a long way from disco imo so in my opinion it has been here since the late 70s, over 35 years, and it will never be gone. well it will be gone if we some day loose electricity.

I would like to see some sort of classical dance music, that would be cool. A lot more emphasis on melody and themes would be really awesome to see.



I think the dubstep explosion in America is going to lead to a similar genre getting popular, but I'm not sure which. if Noisia and Spor both keep remixing dubstep songs I think we might see more attention on drumstep and darkstep.

I see a lot more teens that are into drum and bass and drumstep, me included.

All of this is just imo, I really have no clue what's going to happen.

I also noticed hardstyle and nu-style have been growing, they were before too.



As of late though it's slowed down a lot. A year ago I was hearing a lot of it on radio shows, but not so much anymore.

In all honesty, I think dubstep will continue to turn people onto a harder sound, and will get more people interested in that kind of stuff - for better or worse.
