Keeping motivated in the studio

How do you do it? What helps you keep motivated to finish an original piece?

i dont really need any motivation. inspiration comes and then i start, if i have no inspiration or ideas i do something else. well sometimes i just play around randomly too though but those never gets to be actual songs - its just meant to jam a little and enjoy the ride. i see what you mean though if you have a dedicated studio it might be hard just doing something else when you first are there, and if you never go there nothing happens - dilemma. this is why im always going to have my studio close to the livingroom in my home, hopefully in the same room. currently i have my gear in the livingroom but its not good set up unfortunately.

it's simple if you set goals.

Staying motivated for me is tightly bound to if the track is impacting me or not. If the track is just so so, and its not really doing it for me, I struggle. As a result, these tracks drag out and become a chore that I loath.

In contrast, if a track is grabbing me, I will work on it nonstop with insane conviction and enthusiasm. As a result, the best tracks I have ever written were done in the shortest amount of time. This is something I have tried to forcibly reproduce but I have found it impossible. Creativity and inspiration come whenever they see fit and unfortunately, this is not as often as I'd like which is always!

If you are struggling, the best advice I can give is to work on a new track or just take a break and do something else you like to do.

I share the common struggle of motivation; every time I learn something new regarding technical aspects of production I get super excited and go to try it, than I keep reading and learning and there is ALWAYS MORE AND MORE AND MORE AND MORE. For me, it gets overwhelming and I often don't know where to start. Creating a great core melody that I dig inspires me and motivates me quite a bit, and listening to my favorite artists and analyzing their tracks and hearing the effects and other elements of their tracks gets me excited because I understand how they did it, thus making me inspired to try some original things of my own.

Wanting to hear the finished song. A strong idea helps a lot with motivation. Doing work for others helps too. But yeah, sometimes I have less motivation. I don't get too concerned about it, it always passes soon enough. And there are plenty of things that can be done in the studio even when the motivation isn't there.

making something different from what i'm used to hearing within certain genre is certainly highly motivated. Also stepping outside the genre and drum pattern boundaries helps a lot.
