Smiling Frog Magazines

Hey hey,

What are the names of some quality dance magazines that are readily available in Australia? And how much are they?

School's getting a bit boring...I need some good magazines to entertain me while I'm in class

Thanks,
Vanessa

One i always read (but never buy) is the Ministry magazine. Its imported from the UK and i think costs around $10, but you get a sample CD with every magazine. Lots of news and reviews about everything to do with the electronic music scene.

look out 4 IDJ (International DJ) on the stands. I started a thread a few weeks ago about this so do a search for it in this forum. It is quite an interesting read with a section of all types of electronic music and the latest popular vinyl.

Think it cost like 13 clams. from UK

Cheers

Yeah Ministry's pretty cool, there's a 10 page (or so) Sasha interview in the latest issue.

It's funny and informative (even if they do shamelessly seem up the arse of r'n'b artists and other cheese merchants) but definately a good read...

I think that if you can afford only 1 magazine get idj as its reviews are pretty good and the articles don't just refer to the same old shit ie drugs that are cool, or how to be a dealer etc. Ministry and muzik etc are ok but then half the book refers to clubs etc in the uk which i don't make it to very often. Often their reviews section is crap as they are so biased against trance they just bag it more often that not.

I went to the IDJ site. It looks like a great mag! I'll go have a look for it. Although, a 10 page article on Sasha in Ministry is very tempting...ahhh, I'll buy both

Thanks for the help!

I have one issue of 'Ministry'. I bought it because the cd was mixed by Cosmic Gate. I hardly read the mag at all though.. It seemed to be all about 'drugs are cool, if you don't do drugs then you suck' so to me it isn't very interesting at all. You might like it though. I think theres an aussie one called remix or something though, check it out.

I've actually got an issue of Ministry from a few months back. And you're right about the "drugs are cool" thing. This issue had ECSTASY splashed in huge letters on this garish background for the front cover. The magazine itself honestly wasn't that brilliant (although the free CD was pretty good house)...nonetheless I'll buy the latest issue for the Sasha stuff!

I'll also look out for that Remix one you were talking about, Philby. Hopefully it will be a little cheaper than the others.

3DWorld isn't too bad for dance music .. they also tend to be biased against trance, but it's better than all the rock shit they have in Revolver and Drum Media..

Plus it's free
