3 Good Song Writing Ideas

Keep The Rhythm, Change the Pitch

Write out a melody, copy and paste the idea so it repeats, change as many pitches as you like, but keep the rhythm the same.

Repeat The Same Idea, With A Variation At The End

Copy and paste your rhythmic or melodic idea, then make a change to its ending.

Call and Response

The basic idea is that two ideas go back and forth. So if you had two ideas(one A and the other B) it would be arranged like this:

ABABABAB

Bonus idea: Try taking two ideas that you have playing simultaneously, and use the call and response idea on it.

Been experimenting with this last one in a large more experimental scale with an orchestration...

how many ideas can I stick in one track? I end up with way too fucking many.

I start with Ableton, which makes it even easier to deviate. Next thing I know I got 50 clips and 100 variations spread out like chaos over 60 tracks and I just say "oh fuck it, it's too complex" and leave this pile of glorious shit alone.

I must have started 100 tracks with an idea to make it simple, just COMPLETE THE FUCKING THING. Well, sure enough - by the time I get bored, simple 4 bar loop has been side chained, pads were added, there are bunch of kicks and delays swimming around and all of it sounds great.... but pieces.

I need an arranger/producer.
