Question From Producing to DJ'ing

Hey guys, I've been producing for a little while now, and I also wanted to start DJ'ing. What would you recommend I start of with? I don't have a very large budget at all. Should I just get a controller for software I run to DJ? Or should I get a Mixer? If so, suggestions on which one (I was looking at Numark DXM06 or 09)? Also, if you DJ with software (like Torq or Serato) off your computer, is there any reason to buy CDJ's (because I was looking at including that in my setup, probably CDJ200's unless anyone would like to recommend otherwise)? If there isn't any reason to go with CDJ's what software should I get? I've heard Torq, Serato, and Traktor are the best, but I'm not sure what I should go for. Thanks!

DXM06 is a nice mixer, I've got one at home.
If you go the Traktor/Serato route, you won't need CDJs and a mixer if you get the all in one packages. Fairly compact setup really.

Pick up a Midi (Traktor or Serato either will do everything you could possibly want) and learn on that. The worst comes to worse you dont like it and it will sell much easier than a full setup of mixer and players/tables.

Torq will also work well and has the cheaper MIDI controllers to get into it. There is also Virtual DJ as well. Just hop on Youtube or to somewhere like a Guitar Center around your way if theres one and play on it.

As said before if you just looking to dip your toes into the dj'ing world (test the waters so to speak) then you really can't beat traktor pro and a controller. I myself moved from cdjs to a traktor kontrol s4 a month ago and haven't looked back since. There is a controller out there for everyones budget

I've actually got a bit of money saved up now, I've purchased traktor pro, and have almost enough money for the traktor kontrol s4. Has anyone got an opinion of anything they want to say about that combo?

Hmm, you probably shouldn't have purchase traktor pro... since the S4 comes with it! It works very well. Simple and intuitive.

Another controller (you'd probably buy two) that is nice is the X1.

Thanks man, but Im not sure how practical it is to throw away money on some beginner mixer, since I do know I want to Dj. I love EDM, I produce, and I'm dying to get into the booth. All its gonna do is soften the learning curve, then I'll have to buy a better controller if I actually want to start spinning, so that seems like I'd be throwing away money to learn easier. I think I'm gonna take the learning curve and put myself in a much better position to actually be able to go out and spin at clubs once I've got the hang of the s4, as opposed to having to learn so intro level mixer, then buy an s4, learn that, then have a shot at going somewhere.

I was actually hoping someone could give me more of a reviewer's perspective on the s4 and traktor, anyone?

The S4 is made for Traktor, it works great. If you can afford it, go for it. Even if you don't like it you can sell it for nearly what you paid. I've played on it a bit and it really is a great setup.

We aren't suggesting you "throw out traktor", more that you either return it or sell it, then buy the S4, which INCLUDES TRAKTOR PRO 2 in the box. Why pay for the software twice?

Hmm I think I will, and I'm glad to hear you like it, can I ask why specifically?

Also, if you notice my post was just edited... hahaha I misread that and understand now why I shouldn't have purchased it already, I was unaware it was a bundle, so I'm going to try to return it or sell it haha.
