their booking fees are about the same here in the states, i'd imagine their figures are similar.

One thing I never expected in the same sentence was "Tiesto" and "wsj" but there you have it...

But personally i hate this whole "trendy club scene" bandwagon we're seeing atm & the more i see, the less i believe we will ever see another golden era of great underground edm

you're looking in wrong places. Look underground, away from main stage. It's there..

I'd be curious to see the breakdown of where the 20 million is generated from. His management must take a healthy dose of that. Then, there is ascap and BMI, touring staff, travel, etc.
He may get that gross that but his net has got to be huge as well.

$20m a year. I love this sort of crap.

It happened to Judge Jules back int he day as well. He was doing some documentary and a PR company was trying to hype it so got the sun to do an interview.

next thing you know, even Jules himself is surprised to learn that he apparently earns £100,000 per set.

The most a Dj has ever been paid was Junior Vanquey for his final set (ever) at MOS in london, and he got paid £10,000 per hour for a near 10 hour set.

I think technically, Tiesto made more money from his stadium gig, Tiesto in Concert as he was essentially the promoter, and took the majority of the ticket sales (35,000 x $50 = $1.75m).

He probably makes a couple of million a year from merchandise, but even then, I think $20m per year is exaggerated by at least $10m, and I'm not even talking about taxes and expenses.

It does seem like a lot, average booking i'd guess is 40k.

40k x 3 nights a week x 52 weeks = 6.2 mil

special events (holidays, NYE, etc) = 3mil (30 shows at 100k each)

festivals (ultra, sensation, etc) = 2-3 mil

sponsors (armani, who else?) = 1mil?

Royalties = 100-500k a year i would guess

that's around 15 mil and i think special events + festivals could probably be lumped together.

he may have more sponsors or other businesses i don't know about, interesting to break it down

this is what i've heard, this was several years ago:
tiesto costed about 40k an hr. Minimum of 2 hrs per booking except for some special cases.

Also he made more than 200kin advance on royalties from playing his own music at the olympics, let alone his fee.

I wouldn't be surprised if armin made more than tiesto. Armin seems a bit more business minded.

Patatoes, patatoes, tomatoes tomatoes. I just want to see people having fun at what they do, and detect a sincere passion for music at some level. Only tiesto falls in that ctegory imo.

Could well be true then, but 15% goes to his agent. another 15% goes to his manager. Then his PR company and publicist are taking a cut if not a huge retainer (one for each territory), then his lawyers, then there's his production company and roadies to pay, and so on....until you get to taxes, and even with clever accounting, I reckon he's getting less than $3m a year free and clear.

Mo' money, mo' problems.
