OK if you had £2000 to blow on a synth of your choice, what would it be and why?

my original thoughts were on either a Virus TI, alesis andromeda, v-synth GT... Im after massive leads and huge basses - the kind of sounds you hear on big commercial tracks that you struggle to create on software alone.

any thoughts?

MOOG Voyager and Roland V-Synth are very different from what u can get ITB. Voyager very thick leads and basses, monofonic though, V-Synth is like NEXUS on steroids, with much thicker sound

To be honest, if I had 2000 to blow, I can think of so many other things to spend it on other than 1 hardware synth

Just bought another compressor, the SSL Superanalogue bus compressor this time, the granddaddy of all compressors DPD can drop it on my doorstep any time now

from my persepctive its the only thing thats lacking in my setup.

Arturia origin.

Great analogue emulation, good live features, plenty of polyphony, modular architecture, potential for TI.

But I probably wouldn't spend it on a synth at all.

I'd probably spend it on live instruments and have a studio full of interesting percussion instruments, flutes, ethnic instruments, stringed instruments, and room treatment

I mean... yes a good MOOG or V-Synth would give you a sound that no other software synth can adequately emulate.... But then you'd be pigeonholed into making music that relies on whatever tools you spent your money on in order to justify the costs. I'd rather have an arsenal of interesting live instruments and balance my more digital sounding sounds with organic live instruments.

Remember, most people can't really tell or notice the difference between a warm analogue synth and digital software synth. They won't suddenly like your music because you used a MOOG.

That's just my take on it.

i was all about my virus TI for years, honestly haven't really touched it in 6+ mos (though it's partly because of the music i make now). In my opinion, if you have a great computer, a great set of monitors and a good room to mix in you're there. What kind of music are you making? I'm hesitant to tell you to go buy a Virus TI if you're making tech house, i'd instead tell you to buy a few vinyl collections on ebay and Kontakt

+1 on that. I'm not that familiar with the Origin but from what i hear it's fucking amazing.

However, Studiobob, I've seen your kit list and aside from something to create sounds, you're missing a great vocal mic, which as a working studio is a fundamental.

Look at the Mojave MA-100 or if you're going the whole hog, you might get lucky and find a U49 for £2k.

Neat that you'd spend it on something other than a hardware synth, but.. that's kind of the point of the thread.

I would buy a pc and some softsynths, and definitely a good midi controller and mixer. If I bought anything analog it would be one of those outboard sound thingies, like the little phatty or the mopho. Unless I was buying for my live setup with my band, in which case I would get the V-synth.
