Having been a DJ from the vinyl era, it took me long enough to switch to CDs, nevermind digital DJing.

Anyways, I bought a copy of Traktor Scratch Pro and would like to hook it up to my CDJ 800s with timecoded CDs. However I have no idea how to do this or what other equipment I will need so some help would really be appreciated.

I'm using an M-audio 44 soundcard for the 2 external inputs currently hooked straight up into the mixer and doing the track adjustments with a mouse

You could use a cheaper soundcard from NI though. The audio 4 or 8 (discontinued but you might find second hand) otherwise the 6 or the 10 would also work.

Depending on how many tracks you want to play etc you'll need a different number above. Let us know if you have any other questions

Traktor Scratch Pro comes with it's own soundcard and everything you need to DJ with timecode. You probably bought Traktor Scratch. The difference is Pro comes with the Audio 8 or Audio 10 soundcard, Traktor Scratch doesn't.

I'm sort of in the same situation.

What is it like to run Traktor 2 Scratch off any of the CDJs? They become glorified MIDI controllers it seems?

Not being a user of the Sync function, what is it like to match tempos? How temperamental are the jog wheels of CDJ 100s all the way up to CDJ 2000s? Slight nudges work? Do you really have to work it?

Any information definitely appreciated! Hopefully it doesn't hijack the thread, it seems relevant.

Thanks for all the replies. Yea, I bought the standalone Traktor as there was an offer on with Traktor 3 coming out or something. Hopefully this is gonna save a lot of time and money burning CDs!

Have the sorted out the cueing on cdj's in Traktor 2?

You could never use the cue button accurately without the cue point changing ever so slightly on tsp 1.whatever

I'll actually use this thread to ask:

I've only used TSP with vinyl. With CDJ's, do you need to use the cue button as well to set a new cuepoint (as you would without TSP) or can you actually just treat the CDJ as you would a record player? (i.e. just freely use the jog wheel to get to any position in the track)

Good info, thanks! I'm using a MIDI controller right now, but learned to beat match with vinyl. A MIDI controller works well enough, and I love having an actual "platter" to work with, so was curious how CDJs would work as the de-facto MIDI controller, since I would expect that some venues don't have a lot of space, and won't let you use your own gear, except maybe a laptop.

You can use the cdj in the same way you would use vinyl.
