Ferries




Another way to get to Ibiza is to take a Ferry from Spain. Some ferries are faster then others given if there are any stops along the way and where you are taking it from. The ferry from Barcelona takes between 8-12 hours, the ferries from Denia or Palma 2-4 hours. The quicker options on these routes are using the high-speed ferry (which is obviously more expensive)

Hotels


Ibiza offers hundreds of different hotels in Every Town on the Island. Playa Den Bossa, San Antonio, and Ibiza Town being the favorites.
A couple of things to look out for:

- Most Hotels require a 5 Night Stay in July / 7 Night Stay in August
- All Hotels will make a copy of your passport or keep it during your stay
- Air Conditioning is not available in all hotels but fans are always available for rental.
- Make sure to make use of the safe in your room to lock up your valuables (money / passport / I.D) People tend to leave their balcony window open or room open and hotel room theft is HUGE on the island, I've seen countless people have their valuables stolen and can't get home.

Car / Scooter Rentals


Cars can be rented from hundreds of locations throughout the island, the easiest is from the airport but it is not the cheapest. I have found that the cheapest way to rent a car is book in advance or to go to smaller places around Ibiza Town / Playa Den Bossa / San Antonio.

Scooters

Alot of people tend to rent scooters either for the day or for their entire vacation. Although fun, do not attempt to ride the scooter to the clubs because the highways are not meant for scooters and people die every year because of drunk drivers or being run off the road. Only use them on smaller roads, take taxis or the free buses to Clubs.

Taxis / Buses

Taxis

If there are 3 or 4 of you travelling, taxis are a comfortable and relatively economical way to travel. You can flag a taxi down at any time of night and day if the green light is showing.

There are also taxi ranks in all towns and resorts. You can also ask the reception of your holiday accommodation to call you a taxi (or call yourself, see the numbers below). Taxis are now charged on a meter system. Make sure to call in advance if you need a taxi to the airport, I've waited over an hour for a taxi multiple times because they are so busy during the summer.

***IMPORTANT***

Ibiza is full of illegal taxis that hang around all the clubs and popular venues, they will charge the same amount or more then a regular taxi to get you to your destination and have proved to be very dangerous. More often then not the drivers are drunk or on drugs because they just came out of the club and are looking to make some money off of you. Alot of people get robbed every year from illegal taxi drivers so make sure you are safe and take a regular taxi. Yes i know the line is very long coming out of Pacha and the only thing you want is to go home but be safe and wait it out.

Buses

Taking a Bus around the island is another great way to get around but much slower then taking a taxi. There are two bus systems in Ibiza, the regular bus and the Disco Bus. Obviously the Disco Bus only goes to the main clubs in the island from a couple dedicated points like Ibiza Town / San Antonio. The Disco Bus is extremely popular and fills up quickly, so make sure to get on it. The best part about it is that is only costs about 3€ one way.

Keep in mind that most official pre parties like Cafe Mambo / Ibiza Rocks Bar / Kanya Beach offer free buses to the club every hour starting at midnight, sometimes tho only with a ticket purchase from the pre party.

Not sure if this is covered somewhere else, and I know it's an extremely general and subjective question, buuut... What would you estimate the average cost of visiting Ibiza (not including flights) for:

Short stay (say 3 nights) on a budget, cutting corners, but partying as required.

Short stay (say 3 nights) having fun, doing what you feel like and not being wasteful but still not letting money hold you back.

Long stay on budget and not on budget as well, say like 7 nights? Including all the stuff like food, drinks, tickets, hotel, cabs etc...

Planning to go next summer and just wondering what I should save up.

not including the air flight, I would say $1500-$2000 for 10 days. That's about what i spent last year, but I also went by myself. It will def be less if you go with more people.

Alot of the hotels include breakfast and dinner. And you can pay extra for unlimited drinks (though its just local beer/liqour). And i took the bus everywhere which isn't that bad cause you get to meet a lot of new people.

Thanks for the links! I'm planning on visiting this September (from the US) for my honeymoon and had a couple questions:

1) Should bring a power adapter (220v > 110v) to charge my phone/ipod/etc?

2) Do I need to learn some of the local language? A quick google search said the language is Catalan, but I do know some basic spanish from living next to mexico. Is that good enough?

3) What are some must-see places, and how would you suggest we visit? Bus, rental car, etc?

yes. I bring that, and a small travel power strip: plug everything into that, and you only need 1 adapter.

Always bring an extra ipod cable... never know if you if you need an extra, or lose one, or hand one out...

Spanish is fine. If you're in any tourist area, they speak enough English to get by. (British & Germans don't speak Spanish ) I think it's important to speak the language, so try and get by with speaking Spanish.

There was another thread with a similar topic, and basically came down to how many days on the island? And how many days are you going to party/disco?


I think for your first trip, if you're going for a week or less, skip the car. Just taxi or bus everywhere (and I'd recommend just springing for the taxi).

That's fine. I know zero Catalan, and I've survived. Just trying to speak in Spanish goes a long way.

Ok, then maybe rent a car/scooter for 2 days then. Use it to see the parts of the island that are hard to get to otherwise.

I think doing Formentera (if you can swing the price/time) is awesome. That's a full day (and you need to catch the boat at 9a/10a, so plan out the night before).

Formentera was one of the cheapest days I had

20 euro for the boat cruise pass (no need to pre buy at your hotel as you get stuck waiting for your boat, none of them were sold out so it would have been smarter if I had waited to pay for my cruise when I got to the port)

Ate a good meal in La Savina before I started biking to the beach for 8 euro

I bought 3 1 litter bottles of water in La Savina at a store for 2 euro total, put it in my backpack, already had some snacks with me.

Bought some post cards for a total of 4 euro

7 euro for the bicycle rental (which also negated the toll to get to illetes beach, you must pay toll if on motorbike or car) took 25 mins to go all the way to where this restaurant is

total 41 euro, maybe add 4 euro for things I forgot about. But I remember thinking that I would have surely spent more if I was on Ibiza

Spent about 4 hours at the clear beach, went to the east side of the island for an hour to get away from it all then was boarding my boat at 6pm

ONE MORE IMPORTANT NOTE: I know a lot of people choose not to carry their passport with them but when I got off the boat in Formentera I got asked for my passport. They were doing it at random, I would say one out of 10 and I have heard they dont even do this for every boat. No idea why or what is going on but I always considered it safer to have my passport on me so I have always carried it.
