Woony - Purple City [Pumping, melodic Techno]

Hey everbody, I wanted to do a mix with these Mike Dehnert tracks (I only like the more melodic tracks by him, I find the harsher stuff rather boring) for quite some time and after some kind of Techno/Dubstep/House mash-up approach didn't work out too well, (didn't fit together) I decided to just do a more old fashioned pure Techno mix. If I had to describe the mix musically, its synth based, somewhat melodic, rather uplifting, pumping Techno/Dubtechno. The last track is a bit darker than the rest but I really wanted to it include it, one of the best tools I've come across in a while in my opinion. The tracks are all rather new and the tracklist shouldn't be too obscure for someone into Techno but I'd be happy if someone enjoys this Feedback greatly appreciated!

Tracklist:
01 Franco Cinelli - 707 Dub Party [Ilian Tape]
02 Fureshuu - All I Want [Project Squared]
03 Fureshuu - Lucid [Project Squared]
04 Szare - Pressure [Horizontal Ground]
05 Mike Dehnert - Minimum [Fachwerk]
06 Mike Dehnert - One [Fachwerk]
07 Resoe - Redlightsareflashin [Echocord]
08 Kaiserdisco - Peak Tram [Drumcode]
09 Mike Dehnert - Pompage [Echocord]
10 Delta Funktionen - Data Economics [Ann Aimee]
11 Echologist - Dirt (Ben Klock Edit) [Ostgut Ton]
12 Mark Broom & James Ruskin - Hostage [Blueprint]
13 Markus Suckut - Shine [Figure SPC]

THe mixing was a bit weak at some points, and the flow seemed a bit stuck at some moments, but it was a nice listen nevertheless

This isn't a terrible mix, but I feel extremely misled. This is neither melodic, pumping nor uplifting. I've been mulling over a blend of ambient-ish dub techno and more melodic stuff myself, and I was hoping to pick up a few ideas from this set, but I didn't get anything like the description.

This kind of techno isn't particularly to my taste. It doesn't make great headphone fodder, and on a dancefloor it's sort of fun for about half an hour, and then you really need to take the set somewhere else or it gets tiresome. I don't think this set covers enough territory, or develops enough to successfully contextualise the music. Is there anything about the first track that makes it a good intro track? Is there anything about the last track that makes it a suitable finale? Is there any reason this mix lasts for 65 minutes? It feels like a fairly aimless session that could have terminated at almost any point.

As for the mixing - I don't know what you did this on, but the basics are there. Beatmatching is fine, EQing is pretty smooth with no loud or quiet transitions. However, emphasis is well and truly on the "basic" here. Most of these transitions feel like little more than ways of getting from A to B - I never got the impression of a particular type of transition, or a transition intended to create a certain effect. Also, it sounds like your mixing style is quite simplistic - start the incoming track off at silent or near-silent and bring the fader up a bit, then take the other fade down quite quickly. This results in pretty uninteresting transitions where the two tracks are never really interacting with each other. I've got no problem with quick transitions, but there should be a reason for the expediency - generally a rapid change of direction or an unexpected twist. When you're mixing a lot of tracks with very similar vibes and energy levels, you could at least hold the transition for a little longer.

Thanks for the valid criticism. In terms of the title, I think its somewhat subjective, I think the tracks are fairly melodic as they are mainly synth driven. But I can understand that you were probably looking for a different type of stuff. But I couldnt really think of a more accurate title. I havent been DJing for too long so I like having more 'safe' transitions with busier tracks. I agree that this wasnt too sophisticated in terms of structure and style but this was mor of a 'hey these tracks are fun, lets make a mix maybe someone will enjoy it' thing.
