Steve Jobs resigns as Apple CEO...

Probably health related.

"... The fact that Jobs is taking over as board chairman, rather than resigning that seat too, would seem to indicate that his condition is serious but not imminently debilitating."

Wow. Let's see what happens to apple share prices.

It's quite incredible what they're doing with him health wise - it's rumored he's been undergoing partial pancreas transplant, which was previously impossible. It may just be that Jobs inadvertently pioneers pancreatic transplants.

Shares down 6.1% in afternoon trading.

Not worried, though. Tim Cook has been basically running the company since 2009 when Jobs had his transplant. The company is in good hands with Cook.

So this poses an interesting question: who will be the new face of Apple Inc?

Bill Gates.

Whoever it is, I sure as hell hope that they can find a way to reach an agreement with Adobe to use Flash and stop making all of us iPad users pay the consequence for their stubbornness.

Jobs (almost) singlehandedly changed the way western society experiences music, and digital communication devices. Pretty impressive.

As a person, what he has experienced physically goes beyond me. I just hope me and many others can still say that when we're his age.

Seems a rather ambiguous letter; why would he not mention about his illness being the cause i wonder

Because he is no way obligated to inform you about his reasons for quitting.

He was neither the first to put an mp3 player in a phone, and not even the first to put a large screen on an mp3 player. The only "revolutionary" thing about the iPod was the storage capacity. I would hardly call that "singlehandedly changing the way" and so forth.

I disagree (even though I dislike the Apple brand). The iPod/Phone/Pad concept is revolutionary - not in concept (although they were ahead of the mainstream) but in it's success. It's the first mp3 player that virtually anyone knew about. Both the iphone and ipod and ipad are the most popular recent devices in their respective fields. Everyone is lending/copying these concepts yet noone gets nearly as much success as from them as Apple does. They stand for wealth, success and are fashionable. Research projects have even concluded that men with iphones are considered to be more attractive than men without one.

Apple is one of the few tech companies that actually knows how to make appealing products with an incredible user experience and sell it as a lifestyle.

It's not without reason Apple is the most valuable company worldwide.
There's little to no other products that perform equally well on so many levels. So yes, I dare say revolutionary.

what apple has done is making stuff for the people, not for the educated fool only. HMI/GUI is always in focus. always much better than everything else. hardware-wise its pretty gay.
