i have to agree with that and even in terms of musical quality this year has been on point for dance music. though im sure there will be some haters in here saying everybody sucks and nobody makes good music anymore

I think this year had been huge for bringing EDM to America. I think there is a difference in "taste" and "being aware" of the growth...

Not everyone is going to like the new music being put out, but isnt it pretty much the same in every generation? My parents loathed hip hop and electronica, my grandparents tolled their eyes at my parents listening to hippy/70's/classic rock n roll, etc....I, for one, roll my eyes at dubstep and *some* recent house/trance, but that doesnt mean I knock it. To each his own, and if it brings more music to more people, then whateva.

Well I know its has been big year when friends that wouldn't even go out with me to clubs to hear these artists if I promised Megan Fox would give them a lap dance are now posting tracks by Avicii, SHM, Dirty South on their Facebook walls. Though these are the more know acts its still surprising.

I only roll my eyes when they start commenting how dope this track is, how cool they are for finding it. I just write back that track was out 2 years ago.

haha yup!! Though i do like Axwell, his newer tracks have been SHModified. But then again i'm may be coming off as a snub if they don't post Zabiela, Umek, Cox, Loco Dice on their walls.

2011 imo has def been a very good but differnt year
there seem's to be a really strong commercial scene with top dj's pretty much changeing styles to cater to that certain crowd which is huge

but also there has been alot of good underground parties and talent

so for me personally ive moved on from some dj's who i used to really like (mostly trance guys) and just started to check out a few lesser known trance dj's/local dj's and parties as well as more techno,house and prog guys
i still love trance and i def have to dig deeper these days to find some really good songs...just not the commercial bs being put out today
i dunno how people still label it as trance music

In order to create a huge scene, you have to create a huge following (in EDM in general). But people often forget that many of those who may be new to EDM, will latch onto more commercial stuff first before appreciating and feeling out the "good stuff."

It happens to the best of us. How many people do you know, that currently listen to the more "elite" stuff, whom started off with Tiesto or DJ Sammy or Armin circa 2001 or some Night-At-the-Roxbury type stuff (depending on how old you are). Especially those who didnt have access to a lot else otherwise (read: non-city kids)

Its all about progression. Some people may not like that the scene is getting bigger and more commercial, but what are you gonna do about it? You can bitch and moan.... or move on to/find things that make you happy. I've grown through my old bitterness of the music changing (because, in reality, I cant change shit) and reached out to music, venues, activities that better suited my current needs.
