Underworld

Been listening to some Underworld albums lately and noticed something. In the '88 "Under the radar" & '89 "Change the Weather" the band seemed much more inclined towards instrumental, rock music, while with '93's "Dubnobasswithmyheadman" they take a much more EDM approach.

Anyone that could explain how this change occured? Or am I totally in the wrong ballpark?

Those albums were made before Darren Emerson joined the band, which might explain it.

I love their work as Lemon Interupt, and some of their Underneath the Radar and Freur work has always been a bit of a guilty pleasure...

I have no idea what was going through mr. Emerson's mind when he remixed schmoo.

Almost everything they touched in the Dubnobass... era was majestic. I've never had a band where I so completely loved such a small period of their discography and was so apathetic towards everything that surrounded it.

Dubnobasswithmyhead is just soooo fucking good. I'm not a fan of much of their other stuff to be perfectly frank, but that album is just magic.

You've heard all their other stuff from the same period though, right? Sasha and Diggers used to cane it all.

I'm pretty sure I've heard the vast majority of it, through one avenue or another. I really haven't done a whole lot of technical "digging" related to Underworld though.

Just for grins, what's some of the stuff from that era that's also definitely worth tracking down?

I'm sure you've heard most of it before: their remixes of Schmoo, Song Of Life, Sound System, Water From A Vine Leaf... Lemon Interupt - Dirty, Thing In A Book etc.

It was a shame to see Emerson leave, but I am happy that they have kept the dance feel to their sound. Thankfully he left a lasting impression.
