apprentice and journeymen seem not to be existent...what about playing for free...paying to pay etc? And yes more than 50% of the problem is the people hiring these mercenary fraud djs.

If you don't know who JayT is/was or havent been to one of his parties, you would probably think 'Who is this guy?', laugh and close the window.

But since I do know of him/been to several of his parties, I continued listening to it.

He makes does make valid points, but i cringe a bit while he makes sense.

Yes, those DJs mentioned are dominating the scene still! No ones moving up the ranks!

the market is oversaturated... which naturally brings us to the current conditions. i don't see toronto's djs forming some kind of labour union or anything to combat the problem though, opens up way too many cans of worms and above all else that's just not how club djs work

edm is pop now, people demand it but most are happy with fluff, which club owners can get for $100/night and if one guy says he wants more it's on to the next available one. until the next club music fad is in full force this is how it will be. hopefully at that time some talent will still be around

@dior homme: i don't know him but i could tell he was sincere and not just talking shit, although it is quite the ramble. read his bio on youtube as well, i'm sure if i were a few years older we would have crossed paths haha

If he did make a comeback...he'd fuck shit up in the best way...frauds would be exposed, forget filling a small venue every week this guy literally helped throw parties with 4 or 5,000 people regularly - and not by stealing or pouring greygoose down bottlerats throats.

i dont understand the money vs dj argument. What does the amount of money have to do with anything? if a person plays for a smaller fee and plays well what is the issue? Also if someone that is just starting out, how is he going to achieve any kind of level without doing shitty gigs with shitty pay (or no pay at all)

i've been to a few oh his parties and i agree with some of what he's saying. He does make some valid points, like learning from older guys is extremely important. Learning the history of music and where it came from. Also all the laptop business with auto sync makes me cringe as well, those guys are really not doing any kind of work other than playing a playlist from top to bottom and getting paid for it. It's fucking bullshit.

Gera, the money thing is about taking away from the art...take outsourcing even in customer service..sure we can pay someone 1$ an hour to do it in india but at the end of the day you do get what you pay for and its not the same service, level or calibre.

Its ppl who throw parties who think anyone can dj and why pay so and so x amount when I can save 300$ and get my cousin who has beat matching software and playlist to do it.

I've been DJing for 15 years and have never used autosync, but I have nothing against it and really don't see how it magically removes the title of DJ from anyone who uses it. It's all about programming.

Yep. Beatmatching IS easy...I'm a bit rusty myself mostly because of using newer technology but programming is huge.
