Vegas "The new Ibiza"?

Found this quote from http://www.spin.com/articles/new-ra...tion?page=0%2C0

quote:
Las Vegas is hyping itself as "the new Ibiza," with casinos hosting DJ residencies from Tiėsto, Afrojack, and the comparatively underground DJ Boys Noize. It's a ludicrous idea on face; Ibiza has a three-decade tradition of cutting-edge club
music -- and vital links with Europe's dance-music underground.

During my last trip to Vegas, I have to say that Vegas is no where near Ibiza. The same 'safe' DJ's always go to Vegas, especially during the holidays and the vibe in the clubs just isn't there, unless you really enjoy the glitz and glamor. It's too much of a tourist city be ever come never Ibiza. Thoughts?

Although there is big money put into many of the clubs there, which are quite nice, they all seem to end up with the same unfriendly club layout that caters to only bottle service. The closest club that could be considered a "clubbers club" IMO is RAIN.

The DJ's are, as mentioned, essentially the same 5-10 DJs. They all specialize in cheese, and bring a particular brand of cheese along with them for their vegas gigs. How many labor day weekends is Morillo going to play. Although Ibiza has its resident DJs, the variety is far superior than what vegas offers.

Not to mention the vibe, which comes nowhere close to that in Ibiza. Vegas mainly consist of ignorant tourist looking for a fuck buddy.

Perhaps some of the promoters should brush up on clubbing history and perhaps visit the magic island prior to making such claims.

Should we even mention the locals in vegas? I couldnt come up with worse music if I looked all year long for it. Its all the same, and its so bad it has ruined many nights with high hopes.

HOWEVER, the ladies are much better looking in vegas than Ibiza. Even the fat and ugly chicks look great in vegas...Im just sayin.

As far as clubbing goes, not even close.

I just moved back to Vegas after living in LA for 4 years. I've never been to Ibiza and altogether have done about 6-7 years here in Vegas.

I was here when EDM was just really getting popular at clubs about 8-10 years ago and most of them had it in the back rooms with the exception of ICE being the first main room club featuring EDM to my knowledge. Me being away for 4 years in a true EDM music city like LA has made me realize upon my recent move back to Vegas that...Vegas is no Ibiza. Again I've never been to Ibiza but plan on it someday. Vegas is a tourist city that caters to the mainstream. 1-2 venues out here are playing true EDM that is not pop infused, mainstream type music and they are afterhours spots off the strip.

People's attention spans are getting shorter and shorter they must be constantly bombarded with hits and anthems to hold their attention. To me going to see a DJ I go for the story that his set is going to tell. That's what was taught to me as a young DJ back in the day, a progression of sound over time is what makes a DJ good. Most of the DJs out here are playing the popular records that you hear on the radio with a 4 beat behind it. Mashups are everywhere. To each their own I suppose and Vegas has always been a tough city for supporting any dance music. I used to play prog and tech at a club on the regular out here and in the beginning it was good, but towards the end I always got told to play electro and vocals. Most people/tourists that go to clubs out here don't know anything about dance music. It's in the promoters best interest to keep the sheep happy.

Take away the casinos and their budgets and you would have maybe 1 or 2 people/promoters if that even that would be trying to do dance music out here. Off the strip there is nothing happening with the exception of 1 afterhour spot that lets you play whatever you want. If you are a headlining DJ and you don't conform out here to the masses, you will clear the floor and probably get pulled, paid and never booked again.

The same DJs play because the same promoters keep booking them, it's a business and no more apparent than in this city. Vegas used to have a good local scene supporting local DJs but in the years I have been gone that seems to have died off.

Hopefully EDM will run its course and go back underground where all the quality music can be supported. I hope Paris Hilton gets a residency out here and it kills EDM in America.

If you want to hear some quality dance music in America head to LA. That last Digweed show had a vibe that Vegas will never be able to attain.

And it was great to see you and Jordan S. out there. I rarely get out much, but couldnt miss a show of that caliber.

Well put in regards to vegas. Sad to hear you have had to move back. I'll admit that ICE did have something special. I was there from 2003-2005 every big weekend and those are some of the best vegas trips I have recorded.

Thats one thing vegas will never have and thats the EDM vibe. Theyll always have the Douchebag party/slut vibe but itll never that vibe where sasha gets on and plays a magical sunset set.

There are some good DJs in Vegas for sure but yeah the vibe is completely different. Vegas is all about pop hits, parties, anthems, etc.

Ibiza is the place where DJs try out new sounds and play epic sunrise sets for true music lovers. When I was in Ibiza, the crowd would be into anything the DJ played, regardless of whether they recognized it or not. It was amazing. No scrutiny, just enjoyment. Totally different from Vegas.

For EDM, I would take Ibiza over Vegas any day. That being said, I do think Marquee is an awesome new EDM club.

Vegas will never be the 2nd coming of IBIZA.....

the vibe just isn't there...

...they partys just aren't there....

....and the clubs just aren't there

untill the day when every club in the las vegas area is competing against each with big name DJs every night of the week like ibiza...Vegas will be nothing more then just some place for someone to go for a weekend coke bender
