Best headphones for production

Hi Guys

I want to buy a pair of headphones to use on the move and cant seem to make up my mind. Can you please suggest a decent pare of headphones in the £100-£200 range.Or maybe just tell me which ones you are using and what is good about them.

Thanks peeps

I love my HD-600 Would never give them away.
Although they should be powered by a decent amp.
Not sure if there are "best" headphones for production,
I just love the sound of the HDs and they are comfortable to a point where you forget that you have headphones on.

An alternative would be the Sennheiser HD595 which are a great pair without the need for an amp. (a sixth of the impedance)

AKG-K701, best headphones for EDM production, super neutral, super comfy and translate REALLY well to full range systems. really headphones you can trust to make mixing decissions

if youre going for the akg 701's you might as well get the 702s the detachable cable is very good, a lot of stores list them for the same price too... although white is nice ha. function > aesthetics.

if youre at a 100dollar budget, go for sony v6 , sony v7506. if you want higher, id save for the akg. you're looking for them to be flat.

edit* surely this has been discussed before no? did you search?

Sorry guys I did a search to se if someone posted something similar but did not came up with anything decent also thought it would be a great topic cuz people like to talk about equipment.

I was looking at the 701/2 glad you mentioned it.

Does anyone own the DT880 pro from Beyerdynamic?

i got sony mdr-v6 and akg k240 studio. akg is better than sony for anything but djeing. but to tell you the truth producing on headphones is really difficult. i get incredible better results using monitors. and i think i know why; almost anything sounds good on headphones.

for producing you want a half open system. closed cans are good for tracking (less leakage) but for soundstage and overall respons, you really want open or half open system

Using the Beyerdynamic DT 770 Pros here. They are ok. They take a long time, at least for me, to break in or grow on you, however you want to put it. Would I recommened them? Probably not but I have heard good things about their successor, the 880s.

The suck thing about headphones and a great frustration, at least where I live, is that with so many choices and recommendations out there, you cannot test drive these things. For such a big expense and commitment, it would be nice to have a store to try pro headphones out before buying. Maybe because of ear crust or oils or general human shit that could glaze high end cones would make such a situation a bad business move, I don't know.

I'm curious, does anyone have a store near them where you can test drive high end headphones?
